La Armada de la que hablamos no es la que se hundió en el intento de invasión de Inglaterra. En el año 1560 Felipe II mandó construir 50 galeras que unidas a las 12 alquiladas al genovés Andrea Doria y 7 a Manuel Antonio Colona junto con las 23 que había en los puertos españoles del norte de África serían suficientes para limpiar de corsarios todo el Mediterráneo.
