Monday, December 7, 2009. Final Days in Ghana. Monday was my last visit to the Lincoln Community School, so I enjoyed the air-conditioned library for the final time. I am visiting the Ch. 58 school for the final time tomorrow afternoon. We are giving 70 kids sodas in honor of their hard-work. I am terrified of the upcoming sugar rush. Lord help us. Friday, November 13, 2009. A "Crash Course" in Ghanaian Public Safety. Meanwhile the BMW driver still looked like he was in a lot of pain. I tried to calm him down and thankfully his brother-in-law happened to drive by and recognized his car. So now the lady from the Land Rover was trying to prevent the Nigerians from going to the hospital. The brother-in-law asked if she was human. and she replied, "NO, I AM AN ANIMAL! I was a bit uncomfortable. That chick has some serious anger issues towards Nigerians.

Monday, November 9, 2009. People need a hand up, not a hand out". People frequently come to Africa with rescue fantasies, usually centered on “saving the poor little black children” and showing Africans how to improve their lives using Western methods- religious, economic, political etc…. Unfortunately, no matter how good their intentions may be, such people only perpetuate stereotypes. I understand the human desire to help, but at the end of the day who can really say one way is better than another?
