A Knitting retreat in paradise. Blowing the Conch Shell Welcoming the Sun. The Hawaiian conch shell, called Pū (pronounced poo), is considered a gift from the ocean, and deeply imbedded in Hawaiian culture. This instrument is made from large sea shells, such as a Triton (left) or Cassis cornuta (right), and played like a trumpet.
