A long and dusty road: November 2014

http://www.alongandustyroad.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

A long and dusty road. Stories from a garden, a surrounding neighbourhood, a town both written and captured on camera. Wednesday, 19 November 2014. Seal's at Donna Nook. On Monday we went to Donna Nook to see the seals. We have gone a few times it is always a fantastic sight to see, there are hundreds of seals there. We just missed seeing one baby being born by seconds, the mother was just cleaning the pup when we arrived. You can tell the newly born pups because they have a yellow tint to their fur.

A long and dusty road. Stories from a garden, a surrounding neighbourhood, a town both written and captured on camera. Sunday, 2 August 2015. Squirrels, Magpies and Blackbirds. Another new face has popped up in the garden, (well two really but I have no pictures of the other one). This is a very greedy little squirrel so he should fit in very well. One of the new faces. There it found some left over cake, (a very unusual happening in our house). A very unsure squirrel. The left over cake was a hit. Of co...

A long and dusty road: A day out at Roundhay

A long and dusty road. Stories from a garden, a surrounding neighbourhood, a town both written and captured on camera. Friday, 26 June 2015. A day out at Roundhay. Yesterday Elvira took me to Roundhay Park in Leeds. I have not been there for a while, in fact I think the last time I went it was with Elvira. Elvira picked me up from home just before 10.00am, Tony waved us off, (he was probably glad of the rest) at least he would have some time to himself. A family day outing. Coots and their chicks. As we ...

A long and dusty road. Stories from a garden, a surrounding neighbourhood, a town both written and captured on camera. Thursday, 23 July 2015. The trouble with cookers. So off to the shops we went to try a find a cooker we both liked. After much measuring, muttering and shopping we found one. Today the cooker was delivered installed and the old one taken away. We were sorry to see it go, it was Tony's Mums cooker and it is one last connection to her that has gone. The new cooker in place in the kitchen.

All Will Be Well: February 2014

http://matchgirlsblog.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Wednesday, 26 February 2014. Part 2: The Malta Half Marathon (or, the Running Gods laugh some more). The start gate seems to be just for appearance. My SENSIBLE pacing strategy was to run whatever felt comfortable, even if that meant walking. However, my feverish, dehydrated, ILL pacing strategy was to run as though I hadn't just spent hours purging my system of toxins. I know, what was I thinking? About 1 mile from the end.

All Will Be Well: March 2014

http://matchgirlsblog.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Sunday, 23 March 2014. A month of not-very-much. Here's what I've been up to in the last month:. I took one week off after the HM, mainly because I felt too weak and light-headed to do anything else. I ran twice - 3 miles and 5 miles - the second week after the HM. Still felt very weak and had to walk lots, plus my right ankle definitely wasn't happy. Looks worse than it feels. Really. I found this very difficult to believe...

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Monday, 12 May 2014. The price of safety. Followers of Bassman's blog will know that he recently bought a fab new motorbike helmet. My preferred option. Bassman has this in black and white. 1) I could try a large child's helmet, which is a bit smaller than an XXS. Woo hoo! I could have something like this:. 2) I could wear a balaclava under the XXS to fill in the extra space. No Just.no. Not even the lion.

All Will Be Well: Grasmere Gallop 2015 Race Report

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Monday, 8 June 2015. Grasmere Gallop 2015 Race Report. Three days ago saw me and Bassman driving south, having handed over cat care to Soo and Tony, so that I could join Cathy and Paul for the Grasmere Gallop (17k distance) on 6 June - my very first trail race ever. I had no idea what to expect but was quite looking forward to giving it a go. I could feel a nightmare coming on! The beach is just around the corner. Still, on...

All Will Be Well: January 2014

http://matchgirlsblog.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Sunday, 5 January 2014. A focus on form. I've been consulting Dr Google and Nurse YouTube about my not-quite-plantar-fasciitis, looking for different stretches and strengthening exercises to do (as well as looking for - and finding - people who say, 'Of course you can run through it! Just to be sure, though, I'll be out walking barefoot along my neighbour's gravel driveway tomorrow. Wednesday, 1 January 2014. Post-run, my a...

All Will Be Well: October 2014

http://matchgirlsblog.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Sunday, 12 October 2014. Race report: Aviemore Half Marathon. At the start: a bit blurry, but still beautiful. From the two people behind me. Still, it could have been worse. I saw a woman after the race with bruising and cuts to her face from a fall. I felt like an idiot, but at least I wasn't injured. Get Out. Of. My Way. The last three miles were great! But now, it's time for a rest! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

All Will Be Well: December 2014

http://matchgirlsblog.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Sunday, 21 December 2014. It's just my imagination. Isn't it? Because today's forecast was for torrential rain and gales, I very wisely did my long(ish) run yesterday when there were only gales. So I headed to the local forestry commission paths for a bit of off-road adventure. I'll bet that REAL trail runners don't have to deal with things like this. Saturday, 13 December 2014. Ignorance is bliss, except when it isn't.

All Will Be Well: January 2015

http://matchgirlsblog.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Friday, 30 January 2015. The best laid plans.again. The inconveniently damaged Newhall Bridge source. I laugh in the face of my optimism. Was I going to want to give up and go home? Was I going to walk because it wasn't easy? Mmmmm, probably.but trail runners carry on in the face of insurmountable odds. So I carried on too. I'd even go so far as to say that I'd use this route again but next time, I'm taking my secateurs so ...

All Will Be Well: Race report: Balmoral 10k (or, hungry but happy)

http://matchgirlsblog.blogspot.com/2015/04/race-report-balmoral-10k-or-hungry-but.html

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Race report: Balmoral 10k (or, hungry but happy). The drive to Balmoral was lovely and, by the time that I reached the queue for parking, the snow and sleet had stopped and the sun had come out. Yay! And then a mad dash by a great many people to get to the Changing Tents, loos, and baggage drop before our race started. But then we took a sharp left turn by a sign that said, 'Beware of the hill! Mind g...

http://matchgirlsblog.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

All Will Be Well. Adventures in running and living, in the Highlands of Scotland. Sunday, 20 July 2014. Culbin Forest: trees, trees, and more trees. Findhorn Bay: what I had hoped to see. So, what's my verdict on trail running? On balance, I think I'll try it again. But next time, I'm definitely going to the beach! Sunday, 13 July 2014. Running with a half-full glass. Or apathy that I don't know how to structure the start of training for Aviemore. But my body was saying, ' Eight miles? And it wasn't a bi...

A Step To The Future. On July 24, 2012. A Long and Splendid View

A Long and Splendid View. The pleasure of the true dreamer does not lie in the substance of the dream, but in this: that there things happen without any interference from his side, and altogether outside his control.
