Climb up pilot peak in lasal mtns (Moab). Standing on Western Rib leading to Pilot Peak (not a major peak btw but 12,000 ) and looking South at the Mt Peale, Mellenthin, and Tukuhnikivatz cluster in the background. Haystack Mt is in the foreground. Standing on Pilot Peak and looking West toward Moab. I learned a very valuable lesson this day with Strider. Burro pass (la sal mtns, moab utah). The trail I took began in what is claimed to be the largest single organism on Earth, the acres of the aspen grove at Warner lake. I really don't know about the actual validity of this claim, but its what I've been told from the locals so I'll leave it at that. 35 miles later one reaches Burrow pass, the above view is looking East toward Colorado with Mt Tomasaki on the left. DAy Hike up shingle creek (western uintas). May 17, 2003. The Shingle Creek hike is a good early season hike because of the fact it is a south facing trail and lower altitude which makes the inevitable snow drifts more manageable. The distance of this hike was 5.5 miles and can be steep in places. We turned around at East Shingle Creek Lake. The trail will continue further into the Erickson Lakes basin. Here is a picture of the trail and as you can see if you enlarge the picture that it is well maintained.
