This region is renowned for its great natural beauty of snow covered high mountain peaks, rushing rivers, wild flowers, sightings of eagles and ibis as well as the goat herds. White painted villages cling to the mountain side. There is lots of local produce - wine, goats cheese, olives and oil, honey, dried figs, organically grown vegetables, to name a few. Trips up the mountain can be arranged. There is also a bus service.

If you're coming from the direction of Malaga and the coast, on entering Orgiva, follow signs through the town for Lanjaron and Granada. Turn right at the small island BP petrol station . Follow this road past Sierra Nevada builders yard and onwards where the road turns into a track. Keep going for about 1 km. When you see the river on your left, carry on for about 200m. Turn left across the stone foot bridge if on foot or take the ford below it if you are driving.
