Alsek River Lodge is located about 45 miles southeast of Yakutat, Alaska right on the river below Alsek Lake near Dry Bay on the Gulf of Alaska. We have permitted hunting areas within Glacier Bay National Preserve, which is bordered on the east by Glacier Bay National Park and on the West by the Alsek River. Based from the Lodge and from frame tent spike camps we also provide hunts on the west side of the river in Tongass National Forest.

The Glacier Bear is a rare color phase of the Coastal Black Bear found only in the Southeast panhandle of Alaska. This color ranges from a slightly frosted black, to a steel blue-gray, with some being light gray, usually with a darker face. Our hunting areas have a good, stable population of Brown Bear, and a longer season than many areas of Alaska. We start our first spring hunt in mid-April and hunt through the end of the season on May 31. Then again from September 1. We run our hunts out of our lodge, located on the Alsek River, which is in the western boundary of Glacier Bay National Preserve as well as out of frame tents and spike camps located the Tongass National Forest and the Wrangell/St. Elias National Preserve.

2008 is my 20. Year as sole owner of Alsek River Lodge. My career as a guide began in 1982 as an assistant guide. In 1985, I moved with my family to Yakutat and became a partner in the guiding business. In 1988 my partner retired and I began the process of replacing the old buildings with Alsek River Lodge, which was completed about 1997. Foundation for North American Wild Sheep. We have permitted hunting areas within Glacier Bay National Preserve, which is bordered on the east by Glacier Bay National Park, and on the west by the Alsek River. Based from the Lodge, and from frame tent spike camps, we also provide we also provide hunts on the west side of the river in Tongass national forest.
