Something for the Weekend - Crying All The Way To The Chip Shop
http://www.londonlee.com/2015/07/something-for-the-weekend-237.html
Something for the Weekend. July 30th, 2015. Gilbert O’Sullivan did some naff things (like dressing in that outfit) but this is a beautiful song. I think Morrissey should cover it. People still dress like that up North, right? It's grim up north. July 31st, 2015 at 2:58 am. This is a terrific song. Mozza shows great taste in live covers (including ‘Nothing Rhymed’). It’s time he recorded his own ‘Pin-ups’. July 31st, 2015 at 7:15 am. So he has done it? July 31st, 2015 at 2:02 pm. July 31st, 2015 at 2:52 pm.

Something for the Weekend. August 6th, 2015. Another good thing Leo Sayer did was write this song. Think that’s about it though. August 7th, 2015 at 5:46 am. And he moved to the other side of the world! August 8th, 2015 at 8:18 am. Haven’t heard this for 30 years, yet remembered every word. Great performance by Daltrey. August 8th, 2015 at 11:18 am. Great song and well performed – but Leo’s version is much (much) better than Daltrey’s. What’s it all about? Something for the Weekend. Bond, Basildon Bond.

Something for the Weekend. August 18th, 2016. Nick Heyward looks like Edwyn Collins for the Smash Hits. Set in this video and the group often sounded like it too. Still bloody marvelous though, and the girls in the audience look like they’re loving every minute. August 17th, 2016. While playing Elvis records and wishing Paul McCartney could help with her homework. But then again, having kids myself, I know that getting ready for school in the morning can be a trial. 2015 June Archive - Crying All The Way To The Chip Shop
http://www.londonlee.com/2015/06
June 29th, 2015. There’s no way I wasn’t going to check out an album called The Great Cybernetic Depression. By an artist with the name Princess Chelsea. When I saw it reviewed on Pitchfork. I’m already predisposed to like something like that before I’ve even heard it, and luckily it turned out to be a terrific album of lovely synthpop balladry that I would have enjoyed no matter what it was called. Buy/listen to more here. Something for the Weekend. June 26th, 2015. Don’t Go In The Water. June 23rd, 2015.

2015 April Archive - Crying All The Way To The Chip Shop

April 28th, 2015. Try telling kids today that once upon a time cash didn’t come out of a hole in the wall anytime you wanted it and they won’t believe you. In fact, they’ll probably say “What’s cash? 8221; as they swipe their plastic card through the electronic reader or pay for their mocha latte with their phone or whatever it is they do these days. The “How A Cheque Book Works” booklet mentioned in the ad can be seen here. Download: Free Money – Penetration. April 27th, 2015. Which just blew me away.

July 27th, 2015. I don’t know about you but I think 2015 has been a pretty good year for albums, and we still have new releases from Chromatics, Frank Ocean, and Lana Del Rey to come so it could get even better. My contenders for best of the year so far include Wolf Alice and Roisin Murphy, but they’re currently being beaten out by Holychild’s. Terrific debut album The Shape of Brat Pop To Come. What’s it all about? Something for the Weekend. Something for the Weekend. Bond, Basildon Bond. Top of the Pops.

2015 March Archive - Crying All The Way To The Chip Shop
http://www.londonlee.com/2015/03
March 30th, 2015. This 1980 single is the only Psychedelic Furs record I ever bought. They were a good band, but in a crowded field of a million Bowie/Roxy-influenced post-punk acts I didn’t think there wasn’t anything that special to make me spend my Saturday job wages on them. But I obviously did like this enough. 8220;Mr. Jones” is from their second album Talk Talk Talk. 8221; records I have. Download: Mr. Jones (Single Version) – The Psychedelic Furs. Goodbye mama, goodbye youth - Crying All The Way To The Chip Shop
http://www.londonlee.com/2007/04/goodbye-mama-goodbye-youth.html
Goodbye mama, goodbye youth. April 4th, 2007. I do seem to like pictures of children in this blog, don’t I? Getting older naturally makes one wistful for lost childhood and things like conkers, grazed knees, jam sandwiches, untied shoelaces, jumpers for goalposts and all that soft-focus nostalgia malarkey. But this isn’t about that, despite it’s title Andrew Gold. Quite a bit, the piano really pumps and the guitar solo is pretty hot. I do remember getting swept away by it in our living room and being...

2015 May Archive - Crying All The Way To The Chip Shop
http://www.londonlee.com/2015/05
Something for the Weekend. May 29th, 2015. Don’t believe them, I went out with several London girls and not one of them darned my socks. They did always buy their round though. May 26th, 2015. Had another stroll down 45 memory lane the other day and pulled this plum out of the singles box. You probably all know the a-side “Plain Sailing” from her 1982 student-bedsit classic album A Distant Shore. I have posted this track before. But I think it was long enough ago eight years! Something for the Weekend.
