http://emily-709.blogspot.com/2013/11/thoughts-on-what-unit-i-might-plan-out.html
Emily's ENG 709 Blog. Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Thoughts on what unit I might plan out. For Eng 709 you only need to plan out 1 unit in detail. Which unit do you think you'll plan out? And what kind of essay will students write for that unit? Again, this is just brainstorming; we'll be fleshing out the writing prompt in detail over the next few weeks.). Unit 1 - intor/overview/informal forward-thinking narrative writing. Unit 5 - personal narrative and higher education. Every day, students asked to wr...

Emily's ENG 709 Blog: November 2013
http://emily-709.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Emily's ENG 709 Blog. Thursday, November 14, 2013. So, I need to keep blogging. Partly because ending my blog in the very beginning stages of planning this project feels like I've abandoned a story. (the state of things in my first blog drafts are so different from what I'm kicking around now. ) and partly because writing in this fuzzy public/private space is infinitely useful to me for clarifying my own ideas and thoughts. For some students (not all! So, I care about. Lots of low risk writing/reading an...

Emily's ENG 709 Blog. Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Philosophy SFSU outcomes again. I think my philosophy fits most closely with. Reflect on reading and writing processes as an avenue to achieving greater control. Demonstrate basic familiarity with rhetorical conventions. Use writing processes and strategies for generating, revising, editing. Collaborate with others during the writing process. I think my philosophy still aligns with, but is not as strongly aligned with. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Emily's ENG 709 Blog: brief tentative overview of 5 units
http://emily-709.blogspot.com/2013/11/brief-tentative-overview-of-5-units.html
Emily's ENG 709 Blog. Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Brief tentative overview of 5 units. Unit 1: cliffnotes/overview/preview of the rest of the class. Emphasizing that many of these topics are things that happen concurrently. Series/order kind of artificial. Gives a preview of everything. Every day, ask students to write about what they know or think about that topic. Formal" reflective paper on what they're most interested in or hope to get out of the class, or what they want to work on. Personal / refle...

Emily's ENG 709 Blog: September 2013
http://emily-709.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Emily's ENG 709 Blog. Thursday, September 26, 2013. Summary of Chapter 7. My summary of this chapter is going to be relatively detailed. Please don't ask me why I feel compelled to do this. The "close reading" bug from being an ex-English major may have something to do with it. although it's more likely that I'm feeling extra insecure about my ability to grok what KGZ's pedagogy really is after the last two blogs, so maybe this is just my attempt at making up for that. Anyway, here we go. KGZ discuss how...

Emily's ENG 709 Blog. Thursday, October 31, 2013. Brainstorm for writing prompt. So far, I'm picturing an informal "difficulty paper" to be the first semi-formal (no tuxedos! For the record, I am familiar with this difficulty paper prompt. Although I started brainstorming my prompt before I found this. I like that they broke the assignment into several phases. So I'll start by trying to draft a prompt:. Why were they difficult? Where and why did your mind wander? Also describe where you found places of e...

Emily's ENG 709 Blog. Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Additional ideas for syllabus. My syllabus would be as clear and detailed as possible. Schedule, readings, assignments, etc. Deadlines for papers and drafts would be included in initial syllabus. Explain some of my relevant teaching philosophy, especially the importance of simply doing the work. Putting in the practice. "Showing up". etc. Set expectations that grades are based largely on this. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Emily's ENG 709 Blog.

http://emily-709.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Emily's ENG 709 Blog. Thursday, August 29, 2013. This is going to come out eventually, so I might as well let this cat out here: I used to work for Google. I was a technical writer there for about 5 years. So, you can imagine, my path to coming to the MA in Composition program may not be what you'd call "traditional". Here's a quick timeline in case you don't feel like reading this entire post:. Pre-colleage: began pursuing both technical and non-technical interests, and continued to do so. I enjoyed my ...
