Notes from the studio: November 2014

Notes from the studio. Thursday, 27 November 2014. It was very rewarding to see the results when some of my students had never painted before. After a wary start everyone soon got the hang of layering paint on the canvas in a bold and confident way. Dance music on and away we go. Tuesday, 25 November 2014. There are no mistakes. Notes from the studio: June 2015
http://sarahbairdhasmoved.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Notes from the studio. Tuesday, 16 June 2015. Today was a scary time-warp experience. I wrote the following post 3 years ago and today I relived it. As I sifted thro' a barn full of belongings, , sigh.Sadly the box of trinkets destined for my children has been purloined by an unscrupulous individual but that is their karma, and mine that I have to live with out it. Saturday, 16 April 2011. Hoarding, we all hoard don't we? I have been pondering this notion of hoarding all week! Do I need those any more?

Notes from the studio: February 2015
http://sarahbairdhasmoved.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Notes from the studio. Wednesday, 25 February 2015. The view accross the roof tops today is spectacular. The wind is mental today, apparently a force 9. Whatever it is I could hardly hold the camera and stand up straight. The Gozo channel ferry is having to take the longer route to Malta around the leeward side of Comino. This rarely happens even in the winter and it's a pretty choppy ride regardless. Monday, 16 February 2015. A great evening at Zeppi's in Qala that just about summed up a fantastic weeke...

Notes from the studio: March 2015
http://sarahbairdhasmoved.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Notes from the studio. Thursday, 26 March 2015. Today in the studio. One intuitive painting, three ways of mucking about on the computer. I really like the different effects that can be achieved in paint apps. It can completely change the mood of a painting. Although I like the subtleness of the original (bottom) the other two work really well and can be used for prints and cards. This is the poem in my head this morning. Sit only with those. Who know and understand you. Sit only under a tree. A beautifu...

Notes from the studio: October 2014
http://sarahbairdhasmoved.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Notes from the studio. Thursday, 30 October 2014. I am working on a large canvas for my own home. I have large white walls, which I like very much but a space looking through an archway begs out for a painting. I want to keep the canvas light with just shades of grey and some metallic. I had initially thought about a mandala or Buddha's head but decided they may be too fussy for the space. In the end a zen enso seemed to fit the bill. Something medatative,. After the storms last week I found some nice bi...

Notes from the studio: January 2015
http://sarahbairdhasmoved.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Notes from the studio. Monday, 26 January 2015. Carnival in Malta and Gozo takes up five days before Lent. Traditionally this was the time to indulge and feast before sobering up for the 40-day fast which in Christian tradition preceded the Resurrection of Christ. Actually carne vale lieterally means no meat and marked the period when meat and other earthly pleasures could be enjoyed in a spree prior to the commencement of the term of Lenten penitence. Hold the biggest celebrations. And a new one. My fri...

Notes from the studio: Re purposed books
http://sarahbairdhasmoved.blogspot.com/2015/07/re-purposed-books.html
Notes from the studio. Friday, 24 July 2015. To make an art journal, find yourself a book from a charity shop. Hard backs are best and if they have an interesting cover all the better. You should be able to pick up a no longer loved novel for 50c. Keep the removed pages to use another day. They can be used in mixed media works or back in the journal. Don;t forget to paint the hard back cover as well so that you can decorate as you wish. I randomly tore pages from old magazines. Not thinking too much ...

Notes from the studio: Chicken memories
http://sarahbairdhasmoved.blogspot.com/2015/08/chicken-memories.html
Notes from the studio. Saturday, 15 August 2015. Santa Marija, mama mia! For two weeks in August the whole of Malta is on holiday, 90% (slight exaggeration but you get my drift) of them come to Gozo for the biggest festa of the year. Two weeks of fireworks and celaebration culminates in this weekend. The highlight for me is a small agricultural show. Not quite the Royal Suffolk but a pretty good turn out of all the local breeders and jam makers. Held in the Villa Rundel gardens in Victoria. Immspired - t...
