Is an extension of loss counseling. Its purpose is to provide emotional and organizational assistance to critically ill patients and their caregivers. Patients and caregivers typically have different needs while coping with illness, dying, and death. Emotionally, each may have difficulty accepting what is happening, be full of anger, or feel overwhelmed. They may even find that their needs conflict with one another.
