The commitment of all counselors is to be available,. Within reasonable limits, whenever the grieving parents have a need to talk. Counselors are also required to attend monthly meetings to discuss new referrals (calls requesting counseling) and existing cases. Sympathetic counselors offer help, one-on-one, to individuals or couples. Meetings are face-to-face or over the phone, depending on the person's preference. Meetings are kept confidential, and for privacy concerns no names are disclosed.

AMEND was established in 1974,. And offers a free counseling service to parents who have experienced the loss of an infant through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death. The main purpose of AMEND is to offer support and encouragement to parents having a normal grief reaction to the loss of their baby. AMEND is a nonprofit organization as recognized by the IRS 501 (c) 3 program. Donations are gladly accepted, and all monies are used to benefit the bereaved parents we counsel.

Counselors are required to attend six three-hour training sessions. Training and supervision of these sessions are provided by professionals who are on 24-hour call. The monthly meetings attended by our counselors are facilitated by these professionals, and serve to update and review referrals (calls requesting counseling), as well as provide support for the counselors. All information is considered confidential, and no names are disclosed.

She helps mommies who have lost their babies. She is helping me with my grief, and her office is a safe place where I can cry and talk. The other day, I was talking with a friend, and I mentioned having an appointment with Shellie tomorrow. This friend said "You're STILL seeing her? How long do you have to do that? Should I be over losing you?
