Saying goodbye to Vienna – an american in europe
https://americanineurope.wordpress.com/2016/08/01/saying-goodbye-to-vienna
An american in europe. August 1, 2016. August 2, 2016. Saying goodbye to Vienna. Various nuts and dried fruit. All were delicious. For breakfast I had ham and eggs, and melange, which is half steamed, frothy milk and half coffee. Melange is a Viennese specialty. A very colorful breakfast. Then I headed to Weiner Straatsoper, the opera house I talked about previously. I did a 40-minute guided tour and even got to go onto the stage. The view from the philharmonic in the front of the stage. I got off at Ste...

An american in europe. July 28, 2016. July 30, 2016. Anyone that’s traveled outside of their own country has learned a very important lesson: you will screw up. No trip will go exactly as you planned it. You will make mistakes. You will forget important dates. You will screw up. Here’s some pictures from my very first day in Vienna. Beautiful pink clouds appeared as we flew over Europe. My first view of Vienna. Saint Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom). Horses and carriages were all over the city. I’...
To the Czech Republic I go – an american in europe
https://americanineurope.wordpress.com/2016/08/02/to-the-czech-republic-i-go
An american in europe. August 2, 2016. August 2, 2016. To the Czech Republic I go. Early Monday morning we departed Vienna and made way to Cesky Krumlov, a small town situated right in the middle of Vienna and Prague. The trip took about three hours, and along the way I got to see a lot of countryside. The first look at Cesky Krumlov. My roommate Elizabeth in our room. I call this one “Boy with candy the size of his body.”. The main square when Hitler visited. The main square today. After we were done wi...
PRAGUE. – an american in europe
https://americanineurope.wordpress.com/2016/08/04/prague
An american in europe. August 4, 2016. August 14, 2016. We arrived in Prague early in the morning after catching a 9 AM bus from Cesky Krumlov. Marketa showed us to the apartments that my tour would be using during our stay, then took us out for a guided walk of the city. A subway station built during the Communist era. Me looking goofy while waiting to put my bags in the apartment. The view from my room. The chandelier in our apartment. The Old Town Square. The famous astrological clock. When I tried to...

An american in europe. August 6, 2016. September 7, 2016. Getting better in Kudowa Zdrój. Last post I’m sure I bored you all to death with my detailed description of my sickness. Well this is the blog post where it stops! Early in the morning (think 6 AM) the tour group met up to catch the train to Kudowa Zdrój. The first train took about three hours and there was a dog riding as well! This cheered me up. Then we caught a second train for a quick 30 minute ride. A park in Kudowa Zdrój. You are commenting...

National Lampoon's Animal House. TODAY WE REMEMBER TOGA PARTIES, TIMELESS ROCK MUSIC AND THE DAY JFK WAS SHOT. November 22, 2013. Remember these scenes from Animal House? I was a senior in high school 35 years ago when the greatest college party movie of all time came out. I still remember the sense of dread this then soon-to-be high school graduate had at the time. I realized that I really wasn’t as prepared as I needed to be for college’s demanding social life. I’m thinking most of us. At the very leas...

THE STORIES BEHIND SOME OF THOSE FAMOUS NAMES. December 12, 2013. When my freshman year roommate in college showed up with shoulder length blow-dried hair and carrying an electric bass guitar back in 1978, I naturally had a lot of questions. 8220;So, what ‘s the name of your group? 8221; was the first thing I wanted to know, anticipating a band name that perfectly captured the still enormously popular classic rock era we held on to . There has to be reason behind every band name, right? The Crickets, Bud...

October 11, 2013. THE TIME “ONE TOKE OVER THE LINE” HIT TV’S POT OF GOLD. No doubt about it, marijuana was a popular theme in classic rock songs. There were quite a few good songs from the 1960s and ’70s whose lyrics, at the very least, alluded to getting high on pot. But the one hit (please excuse the pun) song that sticks in my mind is this one by the pretty much forgotten but talented Los Angeles folk singing team of Brewer and Shipley. October 9, 2013. JEWISH ROCK HALL OF FAMERS, PART 2. You’re...

Song Remains the Same. LED ZEPPELIN’S “STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN” SUNG WITH A LOT OF HEART. November 8, 2013. A buddy of mine just shared this YouTube video from last year’s Kennedy Center Honors event in Washington, DC. It’s a must-see for any fan of Led Zeppelin and/or Heart. Actually, it’s a must-see for anyone who wants to understand the power and potential of live classic rock ‘n’ roll music. We’re in the Lyons family yard for one of those massive keggers put on by the upperclassmen. Anyone who&#...HAPPY B...
Me |

I’m no musicologist. The closest I came to learning an instrument was a few weeks of clarinet classes in the third grade and a few months of trumpet lessons after college. The only musical instrument I play now are my forefingers, which I pat on the side of the bed in the middle of night while listening to Pandora or the radio. But while I didn’t earn a degree in music, I did create a lifetime appreciation of music. All types. From blues. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. THE STORIES B...

All You Need Is Love. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN LENNON! ALONG WITH THE MUSIC, WE MISS THE HUMOR. October 13, 2013. In all the great back-and-forth discussion we’ve had this past week about the best Jewish rockers of all time, and also remembering the strange but true connection between marijuana and the Lawrence Welk Show, we neglected to recognize an important date in rock history. Photo by Roy Kerwood. If alive today, John Lennon would’ve celebrated his 73rd birthday on October 8th. It’s a classic line.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013. I love you, but. The title of this blog is not meant for Jude, but for the kids. I'm looking through old pictures (long process, but on my way to doing one of those photobooks) and came across some dating pictures. Okay, why after seeing these. Pictures would I choose the title that I did? Because this is as bad as it got! Love you kiddles. But you are a LOT of work.
