Most of the rock is either limestone that has been metamorphosed into marble or a conglomerate called Mosaic Breccia that is similar to concrete. Ramblings and images of some of the wonderful places we've visited. Monday, July 18, 2016. Ramsey Cascades - Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I hiked to the falls on a weekday in mid-July 2016 and met over 40 people on the trail including one family with small children. Topographic map with GPS route. Parking area at end of road. First bridge is over Middle Prong Little Pigeon River. Middle Prong from the bridge. The trail follows an old gravel road for the first 1.5 miles. Path goes over downed tree.

For over 7,000 years, people have been extracting copper from the Keweenaw Peninsula. Profitable mining companies formed in the 1840s and the area was the nation's leading producer of copper for about 40 years. Ramblings and images of some of the wonderful places we've visited. Saturday, April 30, 2016. Riprap Trailhead to Blackrock Gap - Appalachian Trail - Shenandoah National Park. Topographic map with GPS route. The segment begins with an ascent of an unnamed hill. The trail is wide enough to meet oncoming hikers without stepping off the trail. The grade flattens out as we approach the summit. Riprap Trail junction near the summit. The Riprap Trail disappears over the ridge. The AT reverts to a footpath.
