April | 2014 | In India.

Monthly Archives: April 2014. 8220;The Deep South”. This gallery contains 7 photos. Seventeen days ago I departed Delhi for the South, eleven of which were spent in the Pondicherry/Auroville area. I stayed with my friend Carolyn, and met some new friends, her roommates and friends, Kim, Melanie, and Manasvini. The nature of these friends, and of the area’s climate (both physical and cultural) persuaded me to spend a lot of … Continue reading →. This gallery contains 20 photos. Several Days among Clouds.

In India. | a mixed-media journal | Page 2

Cichli Evening. Wrote a poem while listening to a song. On the forest lip. Sedge on the rise. We heard red in smog. Sores planted in a cheek. Not taken for breaths of freshness. Embers buried in the hearth. In some stranger’s mouth. Blister, net, thumb and forefinger. First, my gym moved. You may laugh at me, but having a vyayamshala. Third, this evening, on my way home from a mountainous half plate of chili garlic chowmein from the (locally famous) Avantika Food Corner, I dropped my Pepsi in shock as tw...

January | 2014 | In India.
https://nicktackes.wordpress.com/2014/01
Monthly Archives: January 2014. First Attempt at Portraiture. Admittedly, this was supposed to be half of the painting. The other half was spoiled due to a strange blistering of the paper after I applied water – something I assumed would not happen to watercolor paper… In any case, I felt that this mustachioed Indian boy (and myself, the intended subject of the missing half) would be safe guinea pigs for my first try at a portrait. Nearly a Month…. Several Days among Clouds. 8220;The Deep South”.

“The Deep South” | In India.

8220;The Deep South”. Kanyakumari itself was what one would expect of the southern extreme of the subcontinent – easy and breezy. The heat was tempered by cape winds, and we passed a bright morning in the markets alongside shell merchants and sunglasses salesmen, followed by an afternoon on the poolside of a fancy hotel (our reward for the previous night spend in “the Raja Palace” – I won’t say more). I’ll keep you all posted on the next twists and turns of my journey – next stop, Mangalore!

https://nicktackes.wordpress.com/2013/12
Monthly Archives: December 2013. Today is a caesura. Since I’ve last written to you, enough has happened that I won’t try to explain everything, or even much at all. I am making progress in the classroom and with Hindi, I am nearly recovered from some sunburn I picked up in Sri Lanka, and I am pretty happy through and through. Just a few days ago I turned the final pages of Madame Bovary. And today I’ve already put a considerable dent in Candide. We, all smiles behind dusted crates of Singapore. The fuzz...
