Monday, September 04, 2006. In American culture today, the word "gothic" brings to mind images of black, horror, and even gore. The first thing that jumps out at me in the painting "American Gothic" is the black clothing. Even in the late 1800's black was associated with gothic. Tuesday, December 05, 2006. This is my poem by Wallace Stevens. At night, by the fire. The color of the bushes. And of the fallen leaves. Turned in the room. Turning in the wind. Yes: but the color of the heavy hemlocks. And I remember the cry of the peacocks. The color of their tails. Were like the leaves. Turning in the wind,. They swept over the room,.
