婀 汉语拼音 ē 音. 噢 汉语拼音 ō 音. 啊 汉语拼音 ā 音. 简而言之，阿弥陀佛的 阿 字的正确读音是 婀 或 噢 ， 啊 的读音是错误的。 阿弥陀佛的正确读音是 emituofo 或 omituofo 而 amituofo 则是错误的读音。 前面两种读音 婀 和 噢 是自古以来的读音，是中国佛教千多年来的传承。 据说是某些学佛弟子在印度参学后，发表的所谓正确读音， 其理由是根据 amitābha 梵语发音， 阿 应该读成 啊。 在九十年代有许多知名的台湾法师大肆宣传之下， 言论根本上否决了中国千年的 婀 音与 噢 音传承，认定 啊 音才是正确的梵音，以讹传讹， 以致如今连一些中国的正宗寺院道场也在宣扬 啊 音。 他们主要的依据就是所谓的梵语发音， 也进而引用藏语发音，邻国 日本和韩国 与南传佛教的发音来支撑其论点。 我们必须知道 amitābha 是梵文的罗马化转写 注 通常人们只书写成 amitabha，也造成了发音的混淆。 长音 ā 现今主要是以 啊 拉长 或 噢 拉长 来发音。 如今，我们要纠正的就是 amitābha 这短音 a 的发音， 也就是 阿弥陀佛 这 阿 的发音。
