A Monster In The Mirror

A Monster In The Mirror. One writer's attempt to plot his novel. Saturday, June 15, 2013. The character arc is fairly simple. The character is morally deficient in some way, is “needful”, that is, needs something that will fill the gap. The character may well be unaware of his/her lack, or desperate to hide it. It's not so simple. Very often, in the pursuit of the hero or heroine's heart's desire, the moral compass is lost and the “good guy” starts to behave like the “bad guy”....Another way to look a...

A Monster In The Mirror: May 2010

http://amonsterinthemirror.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

A Monster In The Mirror. One writer's attempt to plot his novel. Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Last night I was visited by a ghost. I'm lost." He was just a shadow at the foot of the bed. I could not see his face. I asked, but I knew the answer. I knew who he. I'm not anybody," he said. "Not now.". What do you want? I want to be somebody again.". Do you want to be me? This was strange, talking to a shadow. I am locked away in an asylum and I am mad. I used to live here," said the ghost. "I escaped.".

A Monster In The Mirror. One writer's attempt to plot his novel. Friday, August 29, 2008. Here's what the Random House reader (Gary) said about The Shattered Mirror (did I mention the new working title? After it finished in the top ten on You Write On in July:. Is voyage into Surreality. Following the story of a deformed pirate, a fairy, an near-immortal witch, two characters of fictional legend and the mysterious Mr Bliss placed in a grim Victorian historic novel. Very bizarre and yet very readable!

A Monster In The Mirror: July 2012

http://amonsterinthemirror.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

A Monster In The Mirror. One writer's attempt to plot his novel. Sunday, July 29, 2012. Character arcs and plot points. Warning: none of this earth shaking revelation, just stuff I've been sorting out in my head. You have probably read about character arc, if you've done any delving around the craft of writing at all, and you've also (I trust) stumbled upon the concept of milestones, or plot points, which are associated with screenplays as much (or more) than novels. But how do the two overlap? Let&#8217...

pencils and whatnot: March 2008

http://pencilsandwhatnot-patti.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 27, 2008. Patricia J. DeLois. As a library intern, I conducted a focus group with a certain group of elderly ladies to find out what they wanted from the library. We like authors with three names," they said. "Write that down.". Mary Higgins Clark. Anne Rivers Siddons. (I suggested Joyce Carol Oates, but no, they didn't want her.). Valuable information, and duly noted in my report. No," I said, "I'm going to use my middle initial, like Homer J. Simpson.". A bad comedy act. Never had 'em&#...

pencils and whatnot: Living the Dream

http://pencilsandwhatnot-patti.blogspot.com/2008/06/living-dream.html

Tuesday, June 10, 2008. This is what it's like. For weeks and weeks NOTHING. HAPPENS. You agree to the deal. Bring on the contract, you say, I'll sign the fucker. And you wait. No contract. Keep waiting, no contract. Is this not a standard contract? You ask the agent. "Is their printer broken? It takes time," she says, and she's not lying. Apparently it's not as simple as agreeing that you'll write the books and they'll publish them. They're going to do a whole lot more than that. June 11, 2008 at 5:13 PM.

pencils and whatnot: Know. Your. Market.

http://pencilsandwhatnot-patti.blogspot.com/2008/02/know-your-market.html

Monday, February 25, 2008. Know Your. Market. Just came from a Better Site Than This One, and there was a discussion going on about the market. Not THE market, YOUR market, as in, "You have to know your market.". Study your readership, they say, so you can provide the kind of writing they're used to, pace-wise, character-wise, plot-wise. Give your audience the genre it wants. This seems backwards to me. "My" readers are people who read my book. They're not part of my audience before. Too soon to say.

Shedding Skins: January 2008

http://sheddingskins.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 11, 2008. As if the whole Sarkozy and Carla Bruni affair wasn't enough, now it seems Hugo Chavez and Naomi Campbell have a thing going. Hugo Chavez! The clear suggestion is that political power wants glamour in the bedroom and on the presidential arm. Or the like, but also to make sure that the front row has been demographically tested to make sure enough outlets in enough markets take up the story. And how many is enough? Monday, January 7, 2008. Some nice photography and the moment when...

Shedding Skins: October 2009

http://sheddingskins.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Friday, October 2, 2009. Trying to get to everything. Starting a million things at once and then trying to keep them all going is not a great idea. A good number of them will suffer - this blog being a case in point. It has been rather inactive for the best part of 2 years. I have been incredibly busy, but hey life is all about marking our priorities. In any case, I'll post some suggested albums for 2008-09 and perhaps get to talk about books as well. Who knows? pencils and whatnot: Goals

http://pencilsandwhatnot-patti.blogspot.com/2008/03/goals.html

Saturday, March 15, 2008. Never had 'em. Plans, sure, and schemes, and half-baked ideas, but not goals. The only goal I ever had was to finish library school, and that wasn't even my idea. I was on the tail end of a string of people who inexplicably took advice from Georgia. I think you should buy that house," she said to Jeff Curtis, and he bought the house. I think you should buy that car," she said to a co-worker, and he bought the car. I'll apply. If I'm accepted, I'll go.". It's been freaking me out...

pencils and whatnot: Vicarious Living

http://pencilsandwhatnot-patti.blogspot.com/2008/02/vicarious-living.html

Sunday, February 17, 2008. There's been a growing trend in recent years, and living vicariously through Patti has become a common phenomenon. Even I'm doing it. It's kind of fun. I have a great job at the library, in the audiovisual department. I miss the river of books that used to flow past me at the circulation desk, but here's the payoff: I buy the movies. Fun? Best Job. Ever. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Patricia J. DeLois. Too soon to say. Better Sites Than This One:. William L. Spencer.

A Monsters Baking -

Audax Artifex was our January 2012 Daring Bakers’ host. Aud worked tirelessly to master light and fluffy scones (a/k/a biscuits) to help us create delicious and perfect batches in our own kitchens! For my fist ever Daring Bakers challenge I had to make scones. This is some thing that i have done many times before but it's so good so I didn't mind at all! The recipe can be found here: Audax Artifex. 2012-01-27 @ 11:22:52 Permalink. 3: Pecan Pie Bars. I did this because i hade so much to do so I had to do ...

A Monsters Closet on Twitter. I cleaned both my drag closets quite a bit today and FINALLY filmed a tour of them both! Sadly they were much more fun looking back when I had everything out on display and it appeared more as a Gaga museum but as I've aged, grown as a performer and collected SO MUCH MORE SHIT, it has all been boxed away to maximize storage. Labels: a monsters closet. MISS Yoü G.U.Y.s! Labels: a monsters closet. Battle of the strands. So much to say, so little updates! Let's start with this -.
