A Montessori Home

Welcome to 'A Montessori Home'. Sunday, March 18, 2012. So many 'blog-able' moments have come and gone over the past few months, with no time to sit down and document them, but this series of photographs were too sweet not to share. A few weeks before Finlay's 2nd birthday, I commented to my new co-teacher Carol that perhaps we would need some 'toddler' scissors for the few younger ones who were starting in our class (you know, the handle-free scissors that spring open by themselves? Once he had spent ho...

A Montessori Home: September 2011

http://amontessorihome.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Welcome to 'A Montessori Home'. Saturday, September 24, 2011. The funny side of repetition. Of course, repetition isn't all seriousness and contemplation. Toddlers find such joy in repetition and delight in things happening just as they expect them to. And I must say it's pretty funny for the adults in their lives too! Fun with a suction cup:. Repetition in the 18 month-old. I know I go on about repetition. All the time, but seriously, it's so exciting to watch this little boy at work! The world certainl...

A Montessori Home: April 2011

http://amontessorihome.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Welcome to 'A Montessori Home'. Tuesday, April 12, 2011. But whenever possible we try to make the trip to one of Auckland's many beautiful parks for a real ramble. Fin finds a ramp to walk up and down, up and down, up and down. The challenge is to truly follow the child. This is no easy feat and sometimes it feels as though you are treading water. getting nowhere! But the payoff is truly delightful - a child who is utterly content and amazed by the extraordinary things he finds along the way.

A Montessori Home: Big changes to our little world

http://amontessorihome.blogspot.com/2012/03/big-changes-to-our-little-world.html

Welcome to 'A Montessori Home'. Thursday, March 15, 2012. Big changes to our little world. Has it really been three months? That darling boy of mine turned two a few weeks ago. What joy it is to listen as his language becomes more and more complex. What fun it is to watch as his co-ordination allows him to be more and more independent. And how exhausting it is to be with a two-year-old who can descend from that angel face (above) to this (below) in the blink of an eye! Mummy, Fin make self pretty").

A Montessori Home: February 2011

http://amontessorihome.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Welcome to 'A Montessori Home'. Thursday, February 17, 2011. Let there be light. Didn't I promise a tour of our new house when we first moved in? Well, that was back in November - three months ago! I've been putting it off, waiting to 'finish' arranging the furniture and Montessori materials into their 'perfect' places, but that's never really going to happen, is it? So here it is, our (not so new) light-filled house we were dreaming of way back when. We have materials on low shelves which I have been ro...

Montessori ici: Why we have incorporated Reggio in our lives

http://thefreechild.blogspot.com/2013/01/why-we-have-incorporated-reggio-in-our.html

Friday, 25 January 2013. Why we have incorporated Reggio in our lives. A post on How we Montessori. Triggered a discussion about Reggio Emilia, and I thought the topic was interesting enough to share it widely. After mentionning Reggio Emilia to her, she confessed that she was rather turned off by this because of the artistic aspect of it. And I could completely relate as I had a similar feeling at first. Feels a lot like Montessori Cosmic Education to me, with an emphasis on expression. So really, with ...

Wednesday, 6 February 2013. MONTESSORI ICI HAS MOVED. Since this blog's name wasn't necessarly still reflective of our daily reality, I took the opportunity to change it and go with something that is more neutral. A Montessori Musing Place. 8220;Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world” Dr. Maria Montessori. Saturday, February 21, 2015. Recently, on the school's Instagram account, I posted a picture of children having snack in one of our Primary (preschool) classrooms. I've been asked several questions about snack time since then so I thought it might be helpful to write a post about how snacks are handled in our school. Strawberries.
