LoriBees Garden: How To Make A Concrete Butterfly
http://loribeesgarden.blogspot.com/p/how-to-make-concrete-butterfly.html
How To Make A Concrete Butterfly. Here's a photo of the pieces needed to make the butterfly. (You can click on these photos to see them larger). Also needed is a strip of hardware cloth that will be used to make the body, two strips of wire that will be the antennae, and a piece of rebar for the stake. I bent the end of the rebar by simply putting my foot on one end and pulling on it. I'm using #3 rebar, so it's relatively easy to bend by hand. Attach the wings to the body using wire. Like the materials ...

LoriBees Garden: June 1st Garden Update
http://loribeesgarden.blogspot.com/2013/06/june-1st-garden-update.html
Saturday, June 1, 2013. June 1st Garden Update. June 1st and the garden is rolling. Zucchini in the foreground and butternut squash on the other side. This bed didn't do well last year, and as a result, I didn't get much squash. I'm hoping that my winter clean-out and a pile of fresh new veggie mix soil has fixed the problem! I might put a snow pea teepee here and go for late summer peas. The shallots I planted in November are about 4 weeks from harvest. This plant is from one nasturtium seed. Last y...

Thursday, June 19, 2014. It's Officially Summer (Almost). I love to use the summer solstice as an excuse to mark progress in the garden. This is a good garden year as the weather warmed up much earlier than normal. My bell peppers are extremely happy. In this mix are Ace and Lipstick, seeds left over from last year that still germinated just fine. The green beans are flowering. These are Fortex, my favorite variety of pole bean. The monstrosity of the garden, zucchini. Tomatoes are producing, but they're...

Sunday, July 20, 2014. The moment I've been waiting for since I started those first seeds on March 1st. Pretty much everything in the garden is ready for eats. Have to pick pole beans every couple days. These are my garden favorite. My Big Beef tomato plant is bursting with fruit. Finally, the tomatoes are starting to turn, and this year, my Big Beef are living up to their name. Nice slicing sized. Happy plants. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sonoma County, California. LoriBees Garden: Memorial Day Weekend Garden Check-In
http://loribeesgarden.blogspot.com/2014/05/memorial-day-weekend-garden-check-in.html
Saturday, May 24, 2014. Memorial Day Weekend Garden Check-In. Yes, this blog is still alive! In this bed I've got pole beans, carrots and zucchini. As usual, I planted way more zucchini than I need. Some things never change! A peck of peppers, sharing a bed with tomatoes (not shown). More tomatoes, cucumbers, and nasturtiums that I suspect are going to take over all the pathways like a 50's monster movie. May 28, 2014 at 9:48 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). LoriBees Garden: How I Stake Tomatoes
http://loribeesgarden.blogspot.com/p/how-i-stake-tomatoes.html
How I Stake Tomatoes. I'm still trying to figure out how tomato cages thrive on the market. For me, the problem with them is simple math: You can't use a 3' cage to support a 7' plant. In fact, every other tomato support I've seen on the market looks just as rickety, and ALL are grossly overpriced. So in the hope of saving you all some serious dough, I'll share my method which has worked great over the last several years. It's referred to as the Florida Weave. April 27, 2013 at 11:30 AM. I too have probl...
