Good news: everything is listening, including your keys. Last weekend my cousin and I walked a five mile loop starting at St. Mary’s of the Knobs. We parked in the lot between the old catholic church and the new catholic grade school, and headed off with our phones locked in my car, my keys tied to my shoelace – the same as every […]. Things I Do Instead Of Writing. I’m enrolled in a 12-week writing course this summer aimed at helping writers complete book-length projects. Running, Writing and Tricking Myself Into Doing Either. Last month I ran a half marathon. It was my first. I’ve come to running a little later than most. Toward the end of last year, at age 41, I started jogging halfway through my walks. My usual three mile jog turned into four miles, and then five. Eventually, during a particularly good run, an […]. Things I Do Instead Of Writing. June 6, 2015. I’m enrolled in a 12-week writing course this summer aimed at helping writers complete book-length projects. The course overview said students should come to the class with at least east 25 pages of a first draft. When I found the course more than a month ago, my plan was to dig back into a story I started on Whidbey Island in February of 2013. I didn’t have 25 pages, but was more than halfway there. let's talk about writing: January 2015

Let's talk about writing. Monday, January 26, 2015. Omg vegan sweet potato brownies. Thanks to that Averil Dean. Girl for the link to Ella - (Averil, we're gonna make the beet-potato soup tonight). I made these vegan, gluten-free sweet potato brownies. And they are, as advertised, delish. You all have to make them. Seriously. They taste decadent. Totally satisfying, fully anti-inflamatory, plant-based and fat-fucking-free. (The food's free of inflamatories, but the language? Not so much.). The egg and I.
let's talk about writing: screen break
http://www.letstalkaboutwriting.com/2015/03/screen-break.html
Let's talk about writing. Thursday, March 19, 2015. Guys, it's spring break eve day, here in the ridiculously mild Pacific Northwest, and I'm enjoying an unprecedented pause in work. That's right. A pause. I finished a bunch of editing jobs, am between LitReactor classes. Am at the tail end of a business writing agreement, my latest novel (for adults! Okay, okay, I haven't written a blog post in over a month and I've chilled big time on social media. So there's that. Tonight, I put my kid on a plane for ...

Let's talk about writing. Monday, August 10, 2015. Endings, beginnings and stuff. Did y'all think I died? Well, of course you didn't. Thanks to Facebook and the like, there's no hiding in the bunkers. Frank and I wouldn't even make it to three years, as a couple, due to the unforeseen circumstance that took his life, but he gave me two wonderful children in those brief years, and a name I love. So, what's up? And I'm pretty sure you all will be hearing from me in terms of helping to get the word out.

The Caffeine Gnomes Demand Tribute. We’re back from our seven-day Bahama cruise on the Disney Fantasy and while the kids seem to have rejoined the Real World without a hitch—though with some magnificent tan lines*—my husband and I are still staggering around on sea legs humming “Be Our Guest”. And doing loads and loads of laundry. The staff was terrific, the staterooms were comfortable, the showers were pure heaven, and the food was wonderful. There were little touches, like towel animals and pillow ...
let's talk about writing: around the bend
http://www.letstalkaboutwriting.com/2015/04/around-bend.html
Let's talk about writing. Tuesday, April 21, 2015. I’m edging closer to the full embrace of my next project. Step by baby step. How it goes is, I have a voice. A character. An idea. I wrangle some plot possibilities, and then abandon them. Wrangle, abandon, wrangle, abandon, and like that. Here is the endpoint of today’s walk. Time and circumstance required me to turn around before knowing what happens around that bend. I’m going back tomorrow to find out. Labels: beginning a new project. Ive waited pati...

That's Why: Grow
http://lisahgolden.blogspot.com/2015/04/grow.html
Tuesday, April 14, 2015. I had to visit my past to prepare for my future. Call it what you will - closure, curiosity. I needed to visit that place one last time. It had been six incredibly long and impossibly short years. Almost to the day. When I dream of places from my real, not imagined, past, I am often standing in the garden of 451 John Kay Road. Sophie and I drove by our former home on Sunday. It stands empty. Again. Three families. Three foreclosures. Is the house cursed? Next to the house was a d...
