living in between

Sunday, March 30, 2008. So, I ended up attending the opening of the spring jazz festival here a little while back, it was at the German Cultural Centre in downtown Ankara. While I'm not particularly a jazz fan, I had a fabulous evening. The pianist (Jens Thomas, German) was outstanding! This short intro. concert was followed by cocktails with the artist. We had wine, real. Trying to figure that one out.promotional I guess. Nice change of pace from the usual. Saturday, March 15, 2008. I have never, ever,.

living in between: August 2007

http://amyinturkey.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 24, 2007. So, I'm starting to think that maybe my Turkish is not quite as bad as I often feel it is. Lately when I tell people what I'm doing here if they ask (that is, I'm studying Turkish) their reaction is not "right, what school are you at? Or something to that effect, now the reaction I usually get is a confused look and then "but you already know good Turkish? We try to limit the chats until after the official lesson time is over but, well, it doesn't always happen that way. It's...

living in between: Solitude and Community

http://amyinturkey.blogspot.com/2007/11/solitude-and-community.html

Tuesday, November 27, 2007. I'm rediscovering how much I love solitude and starting to understand how beautiful and necessary community is. It was a fabulous week. This evening I've had the privilege of having the house to myself and have enjoyed much needed alone time with my beloved, and now I'm anticipating tomorrow morning when I will get to share it with the others in our morning worship time and hearing from them of their experience of Him. living in between: September 2007

http://amyinturkey.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 21, 2007. So today I spent about six hours accomplishing relatively little. Not that Turkey is really all that bad concerning bureaucracy compared to a lot of countries, but still, it was an adventure that unfortunately will continue next week. After that I headed to an exchange office to get some dollars to deposit into the bank account I was planning to open. At the 'Vergi Dairesi' (like a tax building). Do you happen to know where that is? All that, and still no bank account. Aft...

living in between: Fun in the winter...

http://amyinturkey.blogspot.com/2008/02/fun-in-winter.html

Monday, February 11, 2008. Fun in the winter. I'm not great at keeping this thing up to date. When you don't write anything for a long time you feel like you have so much that you should or could write and so you don't end up writing anything! At least, that's how I operate. So today's will be superficial but I'll get back into the swing shortly here. Also available, donkey and horse rides. The small 'lodge' was heated by a log stove and we ate lentil soup and kebab. Karyn's Random Thoughts...: Summer Life...

http://karynsrandomthoughts.blogspot.com/2008/07/summer-life.html

Friday, July 11, 2008. It's strange to me.I have been jobless so far this summer! This has allowed me the unique opportunity to hang out a lot with family, to do a little travelling (to Atlanta, and to Pensacola Beach, Florida), to do a missions trip with the youth, to sleep in a lot, and to generally enjoy the time that I am given. Anyone have any suggestions? Yeah, that's a myth.it's definitely not true! Here are some pics of my nephews.I now have four! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Karyn's Random Thoughts...: It's a brand new day!!!

http://karynsrandomthoughts.blogspot.com/2008/03/its-brand-new-day.html

Friday, March 07, 2008. It's a brand new day! My sister told me that my last blog was a little depressing and really I have much more good things in my life then I let on. So, really I shouldn't feel cold and freezing, brrr.but there are times when I feel alive and happy, and really quite positive! There are a lot of possibilities out there for me, I just need to actually narrow down what it is that I want to do! So really, life is not as sad or depressing as I may have made it seem the other day, becaus...

Karyn's Random Thoughts...: September 2008

http://karynsrandomthoughts.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 19, 2008. What a glorious vacation! The beach, the weather, the pool, the food and drinks, the company, the excursions, the massage on the beach, the people we met, getting to speak Spanish, it was all just so great. Dominicans are amazing.I always find it so fascinating to talk to other people and see what makes them tick.  Rudy, the guy in the picture, was our favorite waiter, we talked to him every day and well, he was just a great guy! 160;What else can I say? Karyn's Random Thoughts...: children and chillin'

http://karynsrandomthoughts.blogspot.com/2008/10/children-and-chillin.html

Thursday, October 16, 2008. I am sitting in the Alberta Children's Hospital.  . I am here with my nephew Kade, who is once again in the hospital. He is so cute, and innocent, and I just feel so bad for him.why won't his lungs grow faster? I spent all day yesterday and all last night with him, and had a fabulous time.  I love the way he looks at me with those big brown eyes, and my heart just melts. Over the weekend, my friend Christy was in town.we figured out that we've known each other for 18 years!

Karyn's Random Thoughts...: October 2009

http://karynsrandomthoughts.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 17, 2009. Sitting around the kitchen table, illuminated only by the light of a kerosene lamp burning brilliantly, looking around at the flame-lit faces of the people most dear to me in Honduras, I feel blessed. The blend of black and white faces, blue eyes and sparkling black eyes, and young and old, is a symbol of the transcendence that friendship has over language, race, culture, or tradition. Saturday, February 7, 2009. The beginning of the end. So I started this blog back in 2007 to document my moving to and living in Toronto. I think it's only fair, after abandoning it for several months, that I come back to this blog to document my moving out of Toronto. Yep, most of you already know this, but I'm leaving Toronto and going back to Virginia. Whee! Anyways, let's begin, shall we? First to go were my dresser. A moment of silence please. Okay, moment over. Next was the sofa. I found it much mo...

Amy in Vestmannaeyjar (IS)

Amy in Vestmannaeyjar (IS). Dinsdag 25 juni 2013. Wisdom hides in the greatest doubt.

Project 365

The idea is to take a photo every day of the year to capture everyday life, surroundings, and happenings. I intend to compile all the photos into a "year in review" album at the end of 2009. Wednesday, January 21, 2009. These photos are from one of the first times I caught Gabe looking out the window- he's pretty new to standing up on his own,and he is just mesmerized when he looks out the window. It's like he just realized there's a whole new world out there! Tuesday, January 20, 2009. I made a venison ...
