Kerry's Foundations of Biblical Literature Blog. Tuesday, September 26, 2006. For me, Jacob is the most fascinating of the patriarchs in Genesis. Jacob’s image changes so much over his lifetime that I sometimes do not think of him as a believable character. There is the phase of his life when he is connected with Esau and tries to take all of the privileges that are automatically given to Esau being the first born. Then there is Jacob at Laban’s when he meets Rachel and Leah. He comes out clutching Esau.
