An Innocent Abroad: July 2009
http://innocentabroad-biophd.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2009. Another, um, cultural difference between the U.S. and Europe. Do you know what I've been thinking about recently? Circumcision. My friend the internet. Tells me that while most (about 79%) Americans are circumcised, the rate is much lower in Europe. Germany wasn't listed, but Wikipedia claims it's under 20%. Based on an informal survey (NOT a visual inspection! I suspect the rate is much lower than 20%, at least among white scientists ages 25-35. Ah well. Since ASLO is a hypot...

Sunday, August 30, 2009. Butterfly in the Sky. I heard on NPR. Also, Reading Rainbow had a kick ass theme song. But you don't have to take my word for it:. Tuesday, August 25, 2009. Anyway, I found this comic this morning that makes me think of Charelian English. Although he might have actually said "dangerousish" or "exhibits dangerocity.". Wednesday, August 19, 2009. One Embarassing Thing About Europe. Sorry, if anyone (and you know who you are) is offended by this. I saw this graph today and I cou...

An Innocent Abroad: In Which I Justify My Unenthusiastic Blogging
http://innocentabroad-biophd.blogspot.com/2010/04/in-which-i-justify-my-unenthusiastic.html
Thursday, April 15, 2010. In Which I Justify My Unenthusiastic Blogging. I know that you've all noticed the deteriorating quality of this blog recently. I just can't seem to work up the energy to comment on anything really. For example, just the other day the New York Times printed (by which I mean posted, of course) and article called " Unshaven Women: Free Spirits or Just Unkempt? But I just couldn't motivate myself to finish it. And then, yesterday I found the NPR game. April 16, 2010 at 8:17 AM.

An Innocent Abroad: May 2010
http://innocentabroad-biophd.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 30, 2010. Tonight is my last night in Germany. I'm really sad. Ko and I got to Frankfurt yesterday and have been having a nice time here. Occasionally I break down, because I remember that I'm leaving the life that I've made for the past two years. Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Moving out of Germany is tricky. It's a lot like moving out in the US, except. All interactions have to be conducted in German. I have no car. I have to get rid of everything except what will fit in two suitcases. Go visit ...

http://innocentabroad-biophd.blogspot.com/2010/05/picture-update.html
Thursday, May 6, 2010. Going backwards in time, we arrive at Charles last night (almost) in Jena. This is the team at Cheers (Jena's American themed restaurant). Charles is spending a short time in Switzerland before starting his postdoc at Harvard. I'm sad, but I'm planning to visit him this summer. I've never been to Boston. But this is what was left:. Enough procrastination. I'm off to clean my apartment. May 6, 2010 at 6:07 PM. You should take a companion photo in the Cheers bar in Boston. I've just ...

An Innocent Abroad: To Do List
http://innocentabroad-biophd.blogspot.com/2010/05/to-do-list.html
Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Moving out of Germany is tricky. It's a lot like moving out in the US, except. All interactions have to be conducted in German. I have no car. I have to get rid of everything except what will fit in two suitcases. So in those ways it's a bit more tricky. Here's a brief look into the things that I need to do in the next week and a half. Go see the Frauenartz for a prescription for "anti-baby pills" (I swear, that's what they're called here). After my visa expires. Are you going to...

"Someone else's heart pumping someone else's blood": I ain't afraid of no ghost!
http://beagairbheag.blogspot.com/2007/07/i-aint-afraid-of-no-ghost.html
Wednesday, July 11, 2007. I ain't afraid of no ghost! And I were talking about ghosts. Those whispers of people we knew once ago, typically remembered as being associated with drama of some nature. Those translucent forms who've since moved on (or have been moved away from). But the thing is, they're never really gone, now are they? Is it really so terrible for them to stick around? Stop laughing, it's not funny yet! And I about fell off my chair in a fit of hilarity. Meet my Moaning Myrtle: Chuck Muszak.

"Someone else's heart pumping someone else's blood": Yo tengo hombre.
http://beagairbheag.blogspot.com/2008/05/yo-tengo-hombre.html
Sunday, May 11, 2008. Upon these occassions, I feel uncomfotable. It's mostly my ignorance that brings this on. They attempt to speak with me but after three repetitions I still cannot successfully discern what is being spoken to the ignorant gringa and walk away wondering if I was being harassed or if they were just being friendly. I retreat to my cave and hope they are gone by the time I need to pull my clothes from the drier. Today's conversation went like this:. One of them asks. No, you're fine.".
