Analyzing Everything

General Subject Blog by Jeff Staddon. Sunday, February 8, 2015. Real things I've been wrong about:. The team I was sure would win the Super Bowl. The smart investment move. The right speed to navigating a curvy road. So how did I get to these wrong conclusions? I think that's a bit too simple. If you give two people the same facts they often come to very different conclusions. Why? General philosophies in which we organize and make sense of individual facts. 1. Analyzing Everything: Attention Span

http://www.analysisofeverything.blogspot.com/2010/01/attention-span.html

General Subject Blog by Jeff Staddon. Monday, January 4, 2010. Ever notice that pay is largely determined by attention span? Low paying jobs typically require very short attention spans- make a burger, ring up a sale. Higher paying jobs require longer interactions. The highest paying jobs often have steps requiring months if not years to complete. What is your attention span? Could you make it longer? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe in a reader. Analyzing Everything: How many democrats would vote for Health Care if George Bush was Running it?

http://www.analysisofeverything.blogspot.com/2010/03/how-many-democrats-would-vote-for.html

General Subject Blog by Jeff Staddon. Thursday, March 18, 2010. How many democrats would vote for Health Care if George Bush was Running it? I wonder how many of the house democrats would vote for this bill if George Bush was president? A democratic president won't be in the white house forever. . . we've got to think ahead people. The 30 Second Health Care Bill Summary:. 1) After the bill goes into effect the only health insurance available for purchase will be through government exchanges. 3) "plan yea...

Analyzing Everything: Wikileaks--Providing a Valuable Service?

http://www.analysisofeverything.blogspot.com/2010/12/wikileaks-providing-valuable-service.html

General Subject Blog by Jeff Staddon. Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Wikileaks- Providing a Valuable Service? I find it interesting that nearly all the coverage of Wikileaks makes the implicit assumption that organized governments are against Wikileaks. A good analysis of the situation however leads me to question that assumption. 1) Wikileaks has operated with impunity for a remarkably long period of time and until fairly recently from Amazon.com servers. This is another valuable commodity. What I can't f...

General Subject Blog by Jeff Staddon. Sunday, February 6, 2011. A friend of mine is working on a self publishing project. Here is the cover he's been working on. We'd like some feedback- what you like about it, what you don't like, etc. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe in a reader. One of my favorite books on general principles of life. Public domain text that I republished using a stock photo. Fun exercise, hasn't actually made any money, but that's OK. Jeff Staddon is a software developer.

Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Finding an Accidental Cross Join in an Oracle Query. Ever work on a query that joins multiple Oracle tables and one of them is cross joining on multiple rows resulting in multiple identical data rows in your output? Ever sit wondering like me which which table is at fault? Found a neat way to figure that out without having to actually think. We start with something like this:. Table a a,. Table b b,. Table c c,. Blah, blah, blah. Just add this to your list of fields:.

Seek 4 the Kingdom: 20 Minutes of Church

http://seek4thekingdom.blogspot.com/2009/01/20-minutes-of-church.html

Seek 4 the Kingdom. Saturday, January 31, 2009. 20 Minutes of Church. Sitting in church one morning I became briefly obsessed with capturing the essence of the modern church service. So for the next 20 minutes I captured the following images on my cheap cell phone camera. Rather than seek out "interesting images" I limited myself to photos I could capture right from my seat. Below is the result of my photographic journey. This image captures something increasingly rare in church- the joy of discovery.

Seek 4 the Kingdom: Broadcasting Church

http://seek4thekingdom.blogspot.com/2010/11/broadcasting-church.html

Seek 4 the Kingdom. Saturday, November 27, 2010. A couple weeks ago I was walking through my church atrium and zing- pain shot through my lower back. I hobbled upstairs and lay down on the nearest bench. The pain subsided enough that I was able to fulfill my volunteer duties and return home. I lay down in my bed, pulled out my laptop computer and went to the church web site. From there I watched the service live that I was missing. Church- simply save the. Seek 4 the Kingdom: Is Your Christian Institution Christian?

http://seek4thekingdom.blogspot.com/2009/01/is-your-christian-institution-christian.html

Seek 4 the Kingdom. Saturday, January 3, 2009. Is Your Christian Institution Christian? There is a lot of pressure on Christian institutions to be "successful" in a secular sense. I recently drove by a large local church and school with a nearby playing field. A large sign (bigger than the church's sign) welcomed all to the "Home of the Seahawks". It made me wonder about the priorities of that school. Was this really a Christian school or a school that happened to be run by Christians?

Seek 4 the Kingdom. Sunday, March 23, 2008. Yesterday, I had the privilege of being in the cast of the Easter pageant held yearly on the campus of Southern Adventist University. The several hundred actors make the biblical story come to life for the more than 10,000 visitors that attend each year. Here are some images I snapped while "out of character". Preparing to leave for the garden. At pilot's judgment hall. Simon carries the cross that the beaten Jesus was too weak to carry. Links to this post.
