An American Baker in London. A blog about cooking (and living) in a foreign land. Lisbon: The Port Wine Institute and Belcanto. Booze (but spherified) →. Now that the summer is over, I have a lot more time to mess around in the kitchen. (And it’s a lot cooler! I think so. To be fair, 9 hours is pretty slow and 82 C is pretty low, but it’s not low or slow enough for me. I finally found a recipe. That kept the cheeks at 55 C (medium rare) for 3 days. This sounded ideal for me, so I went for it. They tasted...

Luckily, we hit Lisbon on a Tuesday and Belcanto. Was open for lunch. However, we had a bit of time before our reservation, so we headed up to the Port Wine Institute. I’d never had them before, but was very impressed. This slideshow requires JavaScript. On September 25, 2013 in Travel. Casablanca (and Moroccan food).

An American Baker in London. A blog about cooking (and living) in a foreign land. Masterchef Pop-up Restaurant →. For Christmas this year, my parents gave me two molecular gastronomy kits: One for alcohol and one for food. To be honest, most of the chemicals in the kits overlap considerably, but the recipe DVD included is specific for the kit. One Sunday, Tom blurted out that we should attempt to use the alcohol kit to make some booze. And hey, it was a Sunday, so why not? One response to “. You are comm...

Being the adventures of Kazumi and Garison Piatt as they tour across this great country of ours in their elderly but dependable RV. Thursday, April 16, 2015. There is a place near us (Brown's Grocery, in Holt, FL) which we've heard makes really good biscuit breakfast sandwiches. It's a tiny little dump of a place, but everyone says the biscuits are delicious. We've been meaning to stop there for some time. but never did. Their oven is broken. There are no sandwiches. Wednesday, April 15, 2015. My wife an...

An American Badger In London. That way is Proctor, and over here is the moors. I go this way. Days Left in Europe: 8. May 28, 2011. Sorry this and the last post have been so bare. As almost all of the Americans are gone and even many of the international students won’t be around the halls, much of my time has been divided between goodbye parties and getting my own things ready to leave. This means a lot of time spent around the dorm which doesn’t translate very well to this site. 8211; If I have to expla...

An American Baker in London | A blog about cooking (and living) in a foreign land.
An American Baker in London. A blog about cooking (and living) in a foreign land. Last year, I got information about a dining event called the Gourmet Odyssey that was occurring during the London Restaurant Festival. The concept is that you start at a venue for drinks, then go to another restaurant for your starter, a second restaurant for your main and a final restaurant for dessert. At each location, there is a different Laurent-Perrier. From what I saw, we definitely ended up with the best route. ...

Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Hello, I don't know if anyone reads this anymore, probably because I haven't posted in an extremely long period of time. Two things are certain though. I am headed East, and when I settle down I am going to start a new blog about my writing and my travel stories. Hope you are all well. Wednesday, August 29, 2012. I am sick. I don't remember the last time I was sick. It has been awhile. Wednesday, August 8, 2012. I saw myself in a lot of windows and doorways. I am about thirty...
