An American Brit

Thursday, August 28, 2008. An Afternoon in Paris. Recovering from a mentally-draining two hours in the Louvre, Craig and I revived ourselves with lunch on a patio outside a quaint Parisian cafe. Though the restaurant was a bit up-scale for lunch, we were both too hungry to notice. Eventually adjusting to the occasional waft of cigarette smoke, Craig and I ordered a bite to eat from a waiter who was kind enough to speak in English rather than French. The waiter asked while gesturing to their dessert menu.

An American Brit: March 2008

http://www.anamericanbrit.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 31, 2008. The Best Sight in All of Europe. One thing I absolutely hate is leaving a story only half-finished. So now I must apologize for becoming so wrapped up in my life back at home that I’ve nearly forgotten to recount my biggest and last month of European travel. I actually started this blog post back in March, but never quite found the time to finish it. So here begins another retrospective blog post that I started writing near the beginning of the year and am finally finishing today.

An American Brit: Paris à pied

http://www.anamericanbrit.blogspot.com/2008/08/paris-pied.html

Thursday, August 28, 2008. With the Paris transportation strike just firing up, Craig and I knew that reliable public transportation would be a long shot for the duration of our trip. Carefully studying our maps and asking the hotel manager countless questions about the locations of various sites around the city, Craig and I meticulously planned out our walking route the early the next morning. Agreed," I nodded. "I know you're not a fan of art museums, but the Louvre is top on my list.". I had no idea t...

An American Brit: London Mornings and Paris Nights

http://www.anamericanbrit.blogspot.com/2008/07/london-mornings-and-paris-nights.html

Friday, July 18, 2008. London Mornings and Paris Nights. Hungry after our visit to the Churchill Museum, I racked my brain for restaurants in London that I remembered having decent food and reasonable prices. "Are you hungry for anything in particular? I asked Craig as we hopped back on the subway for a quick trip to the British Museum. Since I'm in Britain," he began, "I'd really like to try fish and chips while I'm here.". Fish rather than the typical beer-battered. Humoring Craig, we walked to the Nor...

An American Brit: A Parisian Catastrophe

http://www.anamericanbrit.blogspot.com/2008/07/parisian-catastrophe.html

Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Separated by merely the English Channel, there are three main ways that you can travel from London to Paris: plane, train, or ferry. By far, the most popular route is via a train route that travels underwater. For my "triangle travel plan" to work, we would need three one-way tickets to Paris, Brussels, and London. In my American state of mind, I had assumed that one-way tickets would be roughly half the price of round trip tickets - not quite. Or paying for an expensive taxi ride...

An American Brit: January 2008

http://www.anamericanbrit.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 9, 2008. Deepest apologies for my month-long blogging sabbatical. December proved to be a bit busier than I had expected. Ironically, my most amazing European stories are those that I've haven't even written yet. Needless to say, I have a ton of catching up to do! Before anyone gets too confused with where I have been for the past month and where I am now, let me bring you up to speed with my latest travel happenings. Oh dear, where should I start. Our tour of Windsor Castle began with...

Clean Water for India: July 2009

http://cleanwaterforindia.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Clean Water for India. Sunday, 19 July 2009. The Value of Sustainable Leadership. In the months following our return from India, I often found myself reflecting on the trip and our sustainability projects started in Dahod. What good did we do? Does any of it really matter? Did two weeks in India change anything for me? Now having time to look back on our travels, I realize that this experience has taught me some of the most valuable lessons in leadership to date. Even after India, I've found that group s...

Clean Water for India: Family Ties

http://cleanwaterforindia.blogspot.com/2008/10/family-ties.html

Clean Water for India. Wednesday, 15 October 2008. After a few lectures introducing us to world water issues, our class squabbled a bit on where to start with India’s daunting water problem. After thirty minutes of voicing opinions on how to split into groups, it became apparent that there were two main options for tackling this project: divide into interdisciplinary teams with each group studying every aspect of the water project. So what do we need to know? Posing this question to the class, we began b...

Clean Water for India: Indian Water Problems: A Complicated Mess

http://cleanwaterforindia.blogspot.com/2008/11/indian-water-problems-complicated-mess.html

Clean Water for India. Wednesday, 5 November 2008. Indian Water Problems: A Complicated Mess. After a quick blog post on my family ties to Gujarat, India and a few posts on world poverty, our original question still remains:. How did India get into this water quality mess in the first place? Historically, India has had very few documented water problems. Before 1960, there was enough ground water stored in the area to fulfill the basic drinking and farming needs of the people. Due to natural wate...In 19...

Clean Water for India. Wednesday, 29 October 2008. Why the World has Poor. Before I even begin this blog post, I must renege on my offer to explain the current water problems in Gujarat, India. Deepest apologies to those who were expecting a summary of our project's main design problem, but I assure you there is a reason for this delay. As I was collecting my thoughts and findings from Indira Hirway's essay on the above topic ( note:. Why are people poor? Have developing nations always been poor? Though ...

Clean Water for India: Clean Water for India: Where Do We Start?

http://cleanwaterforindia.blogspot.com/2008/11/clean-water-for-india-where-do-we-start.html

Clean Water for India. Friday, 7 November 2008. Clean Water for India: Where Do We Start? Shedding some light on the water problems in India, the purpose of my last post was to identify why. Gujarat lacks clean water. Now that we know the general problem and causing factors, where do we go from here? As a small group of college kids with perhaps lofty idealistic goals, many of us have only glimpses of where to begin. Thankfully, we're not in this alone. The caste system in India is a tricky social infras...

Clean Water for India. Thursday, 7 May 2009. To India and Back. Below is an article that I wrote for the Putnam County Sentinel upon returning from our trip to India. For the most part, it sums up the highlights of my experience there. Enjoy! To India and Back. Imagine the end of poverty. Seriously, picture the day when you can’t guilt your kids into eating vegetables because “poor children are starving in Africa”. Imagine a world without poverty. 8220;It’ll never happen.”. Clean Water for India. Tuesday, 4 November 2008. Blog Post Feedback from Students. After publishing my last poverty essay on this blog, I encouraged friends and classmates to read it online and give some constructive feedback on the article. To be honest, I never really thought that anyone would actually read my last blog post and only remotely hoped that they would check out this blog site. An American Black Conservative. We are ALL thoughtful people with a voice…this is mine…. An American Black Conservative. It was to be expected. This has been an ongoing “issue” for years and only seems to be more prevalent as time advances and our seeming love of Country diminishes. It was to be expected that an “insider”….a Washington elite…was seen in flagrante delicto, or caught in the act. So why is her action so disturbing? A veteran’s honor. My Do-Over

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just have a do-over in life? No points deducted for errors and imperfection but we are allowed to do things over with the benefit of knowing where we erred before? This blog is more about moving on than doing things over, and that's as it should be. Thursday, April 25, 2013. He's asking me how long you've been here, and if you have a residence permit.". An American Bystander

Comment-link {margin-left:.6em;}. Sunday, December 31, 2006. Happy New Year's Eve. I have had the week off, and can honestly say that I've accomplished almost nothing. I'm not specifically complaining, but I am almost ready for this vacation and holiday season to come to an end. I got a new camera a couple of months ago, and now know how to work it, get pictures to my computer, etc. The camera itself is wildly crappy (like $80 crappy), but it's fine for my needs.
