From Newry head south on A 1. Just at the border of Louth into the Republic make the first left (close to the small bridge). The narrow road winds down and terminates in a T junction. Altar Wedge Tomb, Co. Cork. About 7 km west of Skull on the side of R 592 where it bends at the eastern edge of Toormore Bay. This well maintained Wedge tomb sits on a level area a few meters from the road and about 30 meters from the shoreline. Signposted. Pronounced lean to the north. Excavated in 1989 by Dr. Wm. Poulnabrone Portal Tomb, Co. Clare. From Ennis, take N 85 north to R 476. Travel through Corofin and turn right onto R 480 at Leamaneh Castle. Signposted, Poulnabrone is approximately 9 kilometers up this road on the right. Visible from the road. Poulnabrone is probably one of the most photographed ancient monuments in Ireland.
