A place for discussing books, history, literature, and whatever else I want. August 4, 2015. My favorite of the covers I’ve seen…. The Wild Girl was an unexpected delight. I loved Forsyth’s Witches of Eileanan series, and I loved the Rhiannon series even more. But those were both fantasy and she could do whatever she wanted in those worlds. I was a little bit alarmed? Maybe even a bit worried? To see that she had turned her pen to historical fiction. Would her research be thorough? Here be spoilers….

What can I say? This was another fantastic entry in the Crispin Guest series. I still like Blood Lance the best, but this one was excellent, with alchemy, rebellion stirring, a kidnapped woman, and poison. Also, yay sword! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. A place for discussing books, history, literature, and whatever else I want. June 23, 2015. Another version of a commonplace book is called a junk journal or smash journal. While most people seem to view these as a form of a scrapbook, to me it seems an ideal way to incorporate many forms of media into a visually beautiful commonplace book. While I just recently discovered this term, it turns out I have actually created a junk journal before, and had a ball doing it! Christopher Hitchens in Speak Up!

So, a cool thing happened this weekend with my book club meeting. A few months ago, while reading Sharon Kay Penman’s blog. She put up one of her infamous Book Bankruptcy Blogs. In it, I noticed a name I recognized Judith Starkston, who was publishing a book called Hand of Fire. Is that it can’t be maybe it is a common name? I bet Google will know!

However, I was reminded just HOW big a nerd I am when I recently unearthed a long-forgotten paper comparing Thomas More’s. That I had written, and actually submitted, in a college class. Yes, I wrote an actual paper about Star Trek! I am highly amused! Is it possible for two men who lived 400 years apart to have a similar vision for the future of mankind? This go round, Crispin is charged by the Archbishop of Canterbury to help find the bones of the sainted Thomas Becket, which had apparently been stolen in a heretical Lollard plot. Along the way, Crispin and Jack met up with Crispin’s old friend Geoffrey Chaucer (yay, Chaucer! The Demon’s Parchment. 2 thoughts on “ Troubled Bones. You are commenting...

A place for discussing books, history, literature, and whatever else I want. June 20, 2015. June 25, 2015. The Unquiet Bones by Mel Starr was a fun, light read. Nothing too dark or gory, which doesn’t generally bother me as long as it doesn’t involve kids anyway, but having just come off a long string of Harry Bosch novels, it’s a refreshing change all the same. I also missed the Middle Ages. Book-A-Thon – technically day 2. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public).

My system of categorizing and scoring books cannot be explained in fewer than 350 words, and a book review isn’t really the place to do it anyway. Generally, a book only get gets 5 stars from me if it makes me howl with laughter, or sob, or is in some way life changing. Most mysteries do not fit these criteria. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
