It is here that the rock formations take on gigantic proportions and we can venture out onto some of the most historic and astonishing climbs in all of Brazil. Costão is a great adventure and a local classic. You don’t need any rock climbing experience, just a pair strong legs, an open mind and a good attitude. The hike up usually takes between 1 and 2 hours and can be done in either a morning or afternoon.

Our splurge meal of the the trip was at an all-you-can-eat churrascaria (Brazilian barbeque) restaurant in Copacabana. After our climb up and hike down Sugarloaf Mountain, Ben and I were famished and ate with fervor. We weren't always certain what meats we were eating because they were presented to us in Portuguese, but everything was tasty. The salad buffet was splendid and even included strawberry rolls! I was surprised to find yakisoba as a staple dish at the various sandwich and burger spots nearby.
