As much fun as it was to design our own house, we spent some time interviewing architects and then we got seriously nauseous at the $30-40k price tag we were getting for designing a custom build. Saved by the interwebs after about a month of searching for stock plans and we finally came across this one that we love love love (even more than what we were designing from scratch! Small (under 1200 ft2).

Our adventures of building a house on Vashon Island in King County, WA. Tuesday, February 3, 2015. Now I know what a skidder is. We were out on the land the other day and Dave from Vashon Forest Stewards stopped by to see how we were doing. He brought a friend Tony with him - Tony, it turns out, is one bad-ass-mo-fo. He dropped a 3' diameter tree that was probably 150' tall in about 5 minutes. It would have taken us about 3 days of hemming and hawing to get that sucker down. Now I know what a skidder is.

We rode it out on the boat without incident but when we got to the land, there were a few downed trees. We had big plans to do some tree geo-location and a bit more driveway clearing when a neighbor stopped by and mentioned the downed tree on the road. CHAINSAWS TO THE RESCUE! I had to beat Jason's post about Romania). I've never seen so many mopeds in my life. At every intersection, there is a special area that the mopeds are all allowed to cut in front of the cars. Resulting in what sounds like a moped gang at every green light. Temples were everywhere and just gorgeous. Flowers of sacrifice were beautiful.
