At Buenos Aires airport: At the gambio de change counter. I hand over $US20 to the woman behind the counter. She looks at me.I look back at her. She continues to look at me (so what do you want to change it into, she is probably thinking). As I m in Argentina, I figure I probably need Argentinian pesos? At a cafe a short while later: Uno cappucino, I say. Is there a difference, I wonder. As she doesn t speak English and my Spanish is no better, I settle for normale. Peru: A passing phase

http://www.andesadventure.blogspot.com/2006/08/passing-phase.html

Another day of breathtaking scenery and a breathless climb to our second highest pass, Puerto Huyanay at 4800m. Long before we sighted the top of the ridge, we had off-loaded our day backs and strapped them to horses. Even our cameras felt heavy and combersome. At last, the top of the pass (pictured). The downhill walk was along a series of narrow and steep hairpin bends, zig-zagging along the face of the mountain. Posted by Hari Kotrotsios @ 11:20 PM. Coolum Beach, Sunshine Coast, Australia.

Peru: Not a rest day!

http://www.andesadventure.blogspot.com/2006/08/not-rest-day.html

Not a rest day! We want a horse. And we want it now! We're NOT walking another step. Mutiny. A walk out (so to speak). Our day of rest turned into an 8km, hot, exhausting 6-hour return trek to visit a "friend" who owned a restaurant. We were tired, grumpy and still a long, long way from camp. We angrily ambushed our guide, demanding horses for the remainder of the journey. Several horses were rounded up and we clambered on board. So how do I drive this horse? Obviously not - w. Tibet

http://tibettrip.blogspot.com/2007/06/endless-landscape.html

And an endless road past endless mountains. The endlessness turns into a barren emptiness. A lone horseman crosses the plain against a snow-capped peak in the background. Two figures standing in the middle of this endless landscape. A nomad shepherd with his goats in the vast emptiness. The long dusty road marked by a row of telephone poles stretching across the landscape. The bare, rocky landscape turns into a grassy plain and eventually gives way to a sandy dessert. Tibet: Get thee to a nunnery

http://tibettrip.blogspot.com/2007/06/get-thee-to-nunnery.html

Get thee to a nunnery. The highlight of my brief stay in Lhasa was a self-planned visit to a nunnery late one afternoon, where I spent a pleasant and entertaining hour. As I stood against the wall of the main chapel listening to the prayers, one of the nuns motioned me over and moved across so I could sit on the cushion with the chanting nuns. Given the great language barrier, we all smiled and nodded at each other. And they kept staring at me. At one point I offered them my Tibet guidebook as I had been...
