What mud? What clay? | EARTH CONSUMED

An experience-exhibition by Michelle Lim featuring earth, food and art. This week, I had a meeting with two industrial designers, who are rather well known for what they have accomplished over the past twenty years. (That’s almost the number of years I’ve been alive! As we were getting to know each other, one of them asked what I am currently pursuing. 8220;Ceramics.” I answered. A short pause later, he repeated, “Ceramics? 8221; as if he hadn’t heard of it or didn’t know what it meant. At risk of soundi...

An experience-exhibition by Michelle Lim featuring earth, food and art. Hear ye, hear ye! First of all, Merry Christmas! Things have been awesome since the last post. After much hunting, the plinths are on their way and probably being constructed as we speak. A nice man named Ah Tong, from the Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park, has agreed to make them for me despite their enormous structures. One thought on “ Hear ye, hear ye! 1 January 2009 at 5:40 pm. An experience-exhibition by Michelle Lim featuring earth, food and art. The Business Times, 16 Jan 2009. Artistic yet mass produced. By AMANDA DE GUZMAN. APPEARANCES can be deceiving. This is especially true when it comes to home-grown artist Michelle Lim and her work. Ms Lim: Her first solo exhibition features 30 sets of lovingly handcrafted ceramic sets of plates and cups. But she isn’t your everyday art student, pontificating on highfaluting topics without actually doing anything. The plate has a long...

The Opening! | EARTH CONSUMED
https://earthconsumed.wordpress.com/2009/01/14/the-opening
An experience-exhibition by Michelle Lim featuring earth, food and art. The opening was a great success thanks to all who came and made it happen. Special thanks to Jerome, Kelly, Nomsta, Sophia and Veronyka who came to the rescue during my last minute ‘freestyle’ approach to setting up the exhibition. It has taken me a few days to recover from all the excitement. You were there, you should know. The constant change of groups hovering above the different plinths intrigued me as well. Despite my inten...

An experience-exhibition by Michelle Lim featuring earth, food and art. The oil-soaked paper bag that holds a curry puff and the round porcelain bowl that cups hot soup are everyday objects used to enjoy food. Ceramic crockery has been with Singaporeans since the days of eating prawn noodles by the roadside till today, serving pasta aglio olio in a 5-star restaurant. Setting up the Closing Dinner | EARTH CONSUMED
https://earthconsumed.wordpress.com/2009/01/21/setting-up-the-closing-dinner
An experience-exhibition by Michelle Lim featuring earth, food and art. Setting up the Closing Dinner. After closing the doors of the gallery on the 16th of January at about 8pm, we began transforming the exhibition display. At some point between 2 to 4 am, I recall thinking to myself: no sane person would put herself through this! Oh well, I might as well make my madness seem worthwhile.
