Friday, March 21, 2008. Yumi and Lana preparing the ingredients.I was helpful by being the photojournalist, and jotting down notes :). It was no joke the best okonomiyaki I have ever had! Better than Hiroshima, better than Osaka! It's Osaka-style, but it's mostly cabbage and seafood, and only uses a table spoon of flour for four servings, so it's less pancake-y. Ok, so I know I shouldn't have gone travelling AGAIN, but my friend Danielle's contract is coming to an end, so I reasoned that I "had" to go because this would probably be the last time I ever see her. Thursday, July 17, 2008. Koriyama, Nasu, and Inawashiro. Tour group listening to the fire captain. Koriyama's 911 calling center.Everytime someone dials 119 (Japan's 911), this loud siren goes off in the building. It was kind of disturbing that the siren would go off about every five minutes. Where we were supposed to have gone hiking. We had to eat lunch in the bus instead. Soft cream made from real nasu milk. Nasu cow yogurt drink. Nasu is famous for it's cheese and dairy products. Lisa made a bowl.

Saturday, August 23, 2008. Hunt for nagashi somen! Summer is here which means.it's time to bust our your yukatas! Kim, me, and hiromi (co-worker). About a month ago, Rinka's mom had asked me if I had ever eaten nagashi somen. I said, "Nani sore? HahaNagashi somen is usually only sold in the mountains, so I'm sure you have had it many times Suz in Gunma! It comes shooting down the take (bamboo) in ice-cold mountain water, and you catch it with your hashi at the bottom and slurp it up! Then she knocked out.

I was born in the Quad Cities in Illinois and attended Western Illinois University, where I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. I eventually moved to Chicago to teach 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders in the Chicago Public Schools. I went back to graduate school and earned a Masters degree in Reading at Northeastern Illinois University. I am also a National Board Certified teacher in Early and Middle Literacy. I consider my life as a pursuit of knowledge for personal and professional reasons!
