The pleasure and passion of photography for me is in the challenge of seeing. It isn’t about special equipment or technology, and I do not enhance or fictionalize my images. Whatever photograph of mine you are looking at, you would have seen that image too, exactly as I had, if you had been there with me at that moment. Anza-Borrego Desert, California. They show a side of themselves that is impossible to see any other time of the year, when leaves or blossoms dominate. Branch shapes are revealed and shadows form artistic patterns. Even as a child I liked to spend time anywhere that was closed or left derelict: the school yard closed for the weekend or the summer, a building site abandoned on a Sunday, the grounds of a sports stadium in the off season. I have to be satisfied with what I can see from a distance or with my camera pressed through a chain-link fence. The Exhibition entrance offers intricate shadows but nothing more until next summer.
