Just another WordPress.com site. September 1, 2010. Tsintshiwe Siyolo was born in 1910 to a Xhosa family in the Transkei. Farm workers living close to the land, leaving their doors open at night, sitting up late talking around a flickering fire while children slept on grass mats. Gogo tells me that she was a good child, loved by her parents. She remembers waking early to have tea ready by 5am for them before they left for work. Gogo in front of her home. From → Uncategorized. Chris Frost Says…. Life lessons from an American living in South Africa. Laquo; Trade not Aid. Teach a Man to Fish, Feed Him for a Lifetime. November 17, 2010. The fact is that the need is endless. What can I do? I’ve given a few meals. The beggars were still there the next day, and the next month. I gave one boy clothes and shoes. 3 days later I saw him again barefoot, and when I asked him where were the shoes he just said “gone.” Should I settle for donating things? I mean that’s just bad advice. If we...

Just another WordPress.com site. September 7, 2010. When I was a little girl, I told my parents that one day I would like to live in the township. Perspective is an interesting thing, and I suppose a young child is yet to develop the perceptions that will later guide their judgements. I can’t quite recall what attracted me to the township, perhaps it was the children that I waved at from my car window. I saw children playing. I gave Yonela a teddy bear and we named it Themba which means Hope. Poignant st...

Just another WordPress.com site. August 25, 2010. Rough is the word I would use to describe her appearance that day. Worn, tired skin. Blood shot eyes revealing the morning’s attempt to escape a hard life. I didn’t think we would see her again. But it’s easy to judge a moment incorrectly when we don’t understand the greater context right? Here is a transcript of her story (I hope not too much is lost in translation):. 8217; She looked at me, and that’s when I woke up.”. From → Uncategorized. I just see t...
