This is our sailboat, Saviah. She is a Bob Perry designed Hans Christian 34 cutter that was built in 1976. We purchased her in August 2006. She had been neglected for quite a while, so we knew we had a lot of work ahead of us. We hauled her out of the water right after we bought her and she spent the next five months in the Ballard boat yard. The first time we saw her in the Tacoma marina. After graduating from college and getting married in 2001, we moved from Texas to Seattle lured by the mountains, the water and everything that a big city has to offer. Shortly after we moved there, our good friends, the Arthur’s, bought a 28’ motorboat and we spent a good part of the next few summers out exploring the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands and the Gulf Islands in British Columbia. Some of our fondest memories come from those boat trips, and we very quickly learned to love being out on the water.

Updated November 2012, South Africa. The current plan is to depart Cape Town, South Africa and sail northwest towards the small British island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic. After a short rest, we’ll make the long haul across the Atlantic to French Guiana. At this point, we have decided to skip Brazil due to the high costs and issues with crime. French Guiana will also likely be a quick stop before finishing the Atlantic crossing with the short leg to Barbados. Updated February 2012, New Zealand.

We had sooooo much fun and made so many memories! We experienced so many incredible things together. It will probably take me a couple of posts to cover everything!
