I paint from a position of an abiding skepticism along with a faith in being able to find something from nothing. There is no idea that shapes the work from its inception. The images are created from suggestions of the process itself and how I relate to the work as I am making it. My paintings are meant to elicit a wide range of responses - they are often introspective and emotional. If there is a way to read these paintings, the titles are a good place to start.

Derek first started working in the plant industry with driving a machine for a scrap metal yard from there Derek got his love for driving machines and wanted to start his own plant hire company. In 1972 Derek started DR Barratt Plant Hire which was a family run business with most of the work coming from local authorities with a Drot International. Andrew has grown up around the machines from a young age and has had a keen interest in them ever since.
