From an early age, Andrew had been interested in composition and was able to study under Edwin Roxburgh who encouraged his to further his interest in orchestration and arrangement. Over the course of his studies he gained a thorough knowledge of the workings of a symphony orchestra, aided by the college's enormous library of scores and having the opportunity to play in many rehearsals and performances. His arrangements and compositions have been widely praised for their technical assurance and flair.
