A better underline | andrewcrago.com
http://www.andrewcrago.com/blog/2015/3601
I noticed the New Yorker. Changed the way that they do underlined text links. Now, glyph descenders break the underline in a way that reflects the New Yorker’s refined typographic style. How does this work? The best explanation may come from Medium. Where Marcin Wichary worked it out for their own text-heavy site. Essentially the descenders are cleared by putting a small, white (or whatever background color) shadow on either side of the glyphs. Here is a stand-alone version. Of the CSS in Codepen.
Evolving ASL | andrewcrago.com

8220;As language evolves, the powers that regulate language tend to shift. Just look at the Oxford English Dictionary, who added terms like duck face, lolcat, and hawt to their prestigious lexicon this past December. For the English-speaking world, these additions are anywhere from ridiculous to annoying but at the end of the day, the terms are accepted and agreed upon. But how do these new, internet-laden turns of phrase enter the sign language community? See the competing signs at Hopes & Fears.
Rosetta and Philae | andrewcrago.com

On November 12 a spacecraft will land on a comet for the first time. The European Space Agency launched Rosetta over 10 years ago and it has been traveling to rendezvous with the comet Churyumov Gerasimenko ever since. Philae. Is the probe that will reach the surface. In addition to the charming video above (and another very rad video. The ESA put together this interactive site showing the ten-year, gravity-assisted path. Wondering how big the comet is? Birding in Google Street View | andrewcrago.com

Birding in Google Street View. While looking into ways to build off of the Google Maps API, I found a framework called the Sounds of Street View. You can tag MP3 files to precise geographic coordinates, making an immersive stereo experience. Pretty neat. I’ve been interested in birds for a few years now, and after watching the documentary Birders: The Central Park Effect, I thought to use bird calls (and other ambient noise) in Central Park for the project. Here’s the result. November 10, 2014.

Pretty Much Trouble Tomato Soup. Happy Easter →. March 3, 2010. I’ve got a list a mile long of recipes I’ve read that I want to try. Here are some I can’t get off my mind. 8211; Peppermint sticks. Out of season, but I still want to give them a shot. 8211; Swiss meringue buttercream. Okay, I tried this once, but it didn’t turn out well. I think it was user error and it’s high time I gave it another go. I’m not a big baklava fan, but I’m pretty sure I promised someone. I’d make this about 6 months ago.

I started a WEBCOMIC. It’s been a long time coming. Hint: keep scrolling down, down, down…). It’s got ACTION, ADVENTURE, GIANT STORYTELLING SKULLS, MEAN BIRDS, and WEIRD CHARACTER DESIGNS! A couple of paintings. The first is a poster (text not included) for a sustainable philanthropy conference in Greece. The following two are children’s styles I was playing around with. Lots of texture, simple characters, etc. Ballet of the Beard. I’m really happy you’re here. For a longer bio.

CONNECTING . with God . with each other . with our community. Welcome to my journey. Welcome to my journey as I read the Word, other books and live life . Thursday, January 2, 2014. I have spoken a bit of times about this "connecting". Theme and the associated inherent desire and need for "relationship". The strong belief that God created us with this as a part of our DNA. Or the record of "man and woman sin". Now one of the things we understand early of God is His all knowingness (omniscience), nothing ...
