After much experimenting I think I may have found the reason why people all over the world are reporting poor 3G reception on their iPhones. At home or work I usually get an unreliable 1 bar 3G signal which drops down to GRPS when I try to use it, but I can get anything up to 5 bars in other areas, so I assumed it was just O2’s poor coverage. July 12, 2008. IPhone 3G: The first 24 hours. After a frustrating 2.5 hours battling with iTunes I finally managed to activate the thing around 8pm last night. It wasn’t a good introduction to the world of Apple products, but 24 hours later the iPhone has thoroughly won me round despite a few problems. Here are my initial observations. July 28, 2008. Silencing that irritating Virtual Server beep! I’ve been working with Virtual Server 2005 quite a bit lately and the full-volume system beeps created when VMs display pop-up dialogs. Have been causing glares from my co-workers. After a bit of searching I discovered that there’s a hidden beep service which isn’t visible in the services applet in Control Panel, but which can be stopped from the command line in the usual way:. Sc config beep start= disabled. Sc config beep start= automatic.
