Years of history transform the wall into a map of colors and textures. Layers of paint are stripped away to reveal what lies beneath. Summer 2016 Location Description. The female body has long been identified with the grotesque, the uncanny, as monstrous, abject, or the other . Within patriarchal culture myths are generated which fabricate a fear of the female. These myths promote the oppression of women and instill archaic binary archetypes upon them. Summer 2016 Location Description. The brailed text on the walls of this installation translates into quotations and passages from. The Poetics of Space,. A book by Gaston Bachelard written in 1958. Bachelard is a French philosopher interested in applying phenomenology to architecture, implying that intimate spaces are poetic vessels of lived experience. He examines locations in the house as places of intimacy and memory, which are manifested in poetic imagery.

Summer 2016 Location Description. I locate my work between dusk and dawn. These are images of the night. Rigid materials are made to appear flaccid, falling under the weight of something heavier. Constraint infects the work. Slick and coarse parts abut one another, nagging for resolution. Cheap, plastic and fragile materials swell into bulbous forms. Plaster melts like candle wax and clay cracks. Parts flirt, tenderly, like partners in bed. Design and some supplemental photography by Andrew Kirksey.
