andrewmalone.com | Fall From Grace

http://www.andrewmalone.com/2014/10/03/fall-from-grace

Oct 3, 2014. Songwriting is something that hasn’t come naturally to me. My wife Kate is a fiction writer, and we’ve always talked about collaborating more to write songs, but somehow it’s been difficult to get into a good routine. Writing this song was not difficult. Kate had fully formed lyrics and a melody, and all I had to do was fit the chords underneath. Kate has written much more about the process over on her blog. You should go read it. All recording and mixing was done on the iPad using Cubasis.

New songs and a new site. Apr 18, 2015. Posting has been slow here lately, but not because I haven’t been working on any music. Kate and I decided to create a new site for the songs related to her novel, which you can now find at riversbendsessions.com. We just added two new songs: You Never Knew Me and Can’t Let Another Man . You Never Knew Me. This was initially written back in January towards the end of my two week vacation. Can’t Let Another Man. The background vocals here are a total of 12 tracks it...

andrewmalone.com | Double piano groove

http://www.andrewmalone.com/2014/07/16/pianos

Jul 16, 2014. One thing I’ve been doing lately is practicing more with a metronome, and trying to hold a solid groove. Here’s the basic idea:. Turn on a metronome or simple drum beat. Record along to the beat. Play back the recording, listening for whether the timing sounds good or not. It’s amazing how many imperfections you hear once you record something - a take that felt great while playing can sound jumpy and uneven when played back without the metronome. Played along to the drum beat ( MoDrum.

Sample chopping and shuffling. Jan 12, 2015. One thing I like playing with when working with sound is slicing and reordering samples so I tend to be drawn to apps that allow this in some way. This track started when I was visiting family and the kids were playing with an old Fisher Price radio music box. Which I sampled directly into the iPad microphone. Music box shuffled through Egoist. A new drum synthesizer and sequencer. I started with a basic beat:. And some bass from iFretless Bass.

andrewmalone.com | Acoustic Jam

http://www.andrewmalone.com/2014/08/14/acoustic-jam

Aug 14, 2014. I took the morning off from work today since both kids are in summer camp, which means I was able to spend several hours making some music. This is what I ended up with:. As usual, this was all done on the iPad, mostly in Cubasis. Here’s a breakdown of what’s going on:. I started with two ukulele tracks. One acoustic using JamUp. Which has some very nice acoustic modeling amps. The more electric track was recorded through ToneStack. The bass part was also recorded through JamUp.

A collection of reflections and rants from a sometimes angry, often snobby, dangerously irreverent, sacramental(ish), and slightly insane Baptist pastor. Friday, October 25, 2013. I Don't Play Well With Others. It is difficult enough to work with other Christians. Trying to get people to commit to one faith and saying at the same time that all faiths are good is annoying. I can’t say, “follow that path and you will burn in ponds and puddles of sulfur! So I have a weak sell with many other faith tradition...

Where Have All the Troublemakers Gone? What follows is a reflection/review of The Good Lord Bird. Some people are born in the right time and right place for who they are and others miss their time by a century or so. There is a wonderful scene in the film Sin City. Century he was just a big ugly mug. I do not believe that ther...

A collection of reflections and rants from a sometimes angry, often snobby, dangerously irreverent, sacramental(ish), and slightly insane Baptist pastor. Saturday, December 28, 2013. Jonathan Malone, what do you think? It may be a sad statement on humanity that even the notion of an omnipresent, omniscient God who sees and knows even more than the fat man of the North Pole does not keep us from making bad decisions from time to time to time. So I think my friend is right that we need something for co...

A collection of reflections and rants from a sometimes angry, often snobby, dangerously irreverent, sacramental(ish), and slightly insane Baptist pastor. Monday, September 22, 2014. Yet to claim to be devoid of politics in the religious sphere is disingenuous; religion is, by nature, political and speaks to the current political context in one way or another. At one level or another to read scripture, to pray, or to attend and participate in worship is a political act. Note: I realize that I am glossing ...
