Fun with Play-Doh | Daily Reflections

Experiences of a New Teacher. Group Conctracts: Firing Group Members. Straws, M&M’s, and Resources →. The past two days we started to look at series and parallel circuits through a guided lab that uses Play-Doh instead of wires. Play-Doh conducts electricity because of the high salt content. Just the idea that Play-Doh can carry a current engaged many students. Some didn’t believe it would work, others were just amazed. One thought on “ Fun with Play-Doh. March 12, 2014 at 3:22 pm. Agree/Disagree Instead of Right/Wrong | Daily Reflections

Experiences of a New Teacher. Agree/Disagree Instead of Right/Wrong. I recently read this. I wonder if the movement practice can become a subtle, automatic response during class time. If a student disagrees with something said by teach/student they could just walk over to that corner and wait for the opportunity to share their disagreement. It might be a difficult practice to initiate and has the possibility for abuse, but I think it could be a really cool classroom practice. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
Group Responsibility | Daily Reflections

Experiences of a New Teacher. Agree/Disagree Instead of Right/Wrong →. I’m in the middle of a new project where students are learning about how electricity is generated. They are working in large groups (5-6) mainly because that how big my tables are. I would prefer to do this project with groups of 3-4 so there can be a little more accountability for each student but I’m working with what I got. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Experiences of a New Teacher. Straws, M&M’s, and Resources. We started with straws to get a new lens on resistance in circuits. Students were first asked to take a deep breath and exhale through their mouth. Following this, the took a break and exhaled through a single straw. Easier or more difficult? Next, we exhaled through three straws at once. These straws were placed side by side. Students alternated between exhaling through one straw and three straws. Which is easier? The past two days we started t...

Posted the three norms. Discussed at the workshop (communicate productively, take risks and work persistently) and solicited ideas from the whole class about what each one meant to them when working in groups. I wrote their ideas down under each category on the front projection screen and took a. Of the final collection.

These photographs, together with the photographs of my colleague Marg Thomson, are from an exhibition entitled "extrapolate". The exhibition consists of a collection of single found images. The descriptive content is real - "honest" in a photographic sense. In doing so we continue a photographic tradition. However the photographic techniques, post-capture colour manipulation and the design of the printed image questions the obvious literal understanding of what we know of the street landscape.

Experiences of a New Teacher. Energy LOL Diagrams and Skits. I’m amazed at how well the task to create these diagrams forced students to understand the step by step process of their power plant. At the end of the period, all students were able to explain how their power plant worked with confidence. In all of my classes there were so many “aha” moments when students recognized patterns and realized they understood how it all worked. Agree/Disagree Instead of Right/Wrong. I recently read this.
