Honey Beeing with the Potters. Summary of my beekeeping in 2013. March 30, 2014. March 30, 2014. 2013 was a year of learning. I experienced my first dead hive, extracted honey for the first time, and took my first Beekeeping class – the Beginners’ class that I had intended to take the previous year. It’s a challenge to recall an entire year’s worth of work I did on starting a new hive, but for the purposes of record-keeping this is it in a nutshell:. Cleaned/prepped my hive equipment for my new bees.

Honey Beeing with the Potters. Undertaker-bees bringing out their dead. November 23, 2014. After the snow that caught us by surprise last week, it all melted away today allowing the bees to bring out their dead more comfortably. Here’s a video of how they do it. The bees know “Winter’s coming”. November 9, 2014. Even knocking hard on the hive with my ear pressed to the wood, I heard nothing! Just Add a Little Dirt. First time caging a queen bee,. Honey Beeing with the Potters. Just Add a Little Dirt. July 18, 2015. Learning something new is always fun to do. Especially when it comes to helping bees! I’ve set a couple wine corks, cut in half, as a floatation device instead of twigs and such, and am having a blast watching the bees use them. First time caging a queen bee,. Honey Beeing with the Potters. Dead-outs, Mite Pee, and a New Bee Season Ahead. April 13, 2015. April 13, 2015. Last month, mid-March, on a warm and sunny day, only one of my hives showed any activity at all. Sadly accepting the fact that I had lost 3/4 of my hives over the winter, I began to breakdown the dead-outs. Here are some photos from that day:. So we’re back to one hive for the time-being. But not for long! While I’m extremely pleased to have a survivor this year, it’s a good idea to...If you ca...

Honey Beeing with the Potters. Rolling in your riches! August 25, 2014. Have you ever seen the opening credits to DuckTales? Where Scrooge McDuck is diving into a room full of gold, swimming in it, rolling in it? Well, not to anthropomorphize my honey bees to oblivion, but after watching just how excited a couple of them were to stumble upon the pollen trap drawer full of pollen, it was impossible not to imagine them exclaiming, “It’s MINE! It’s aLL MINE…MuahHAHAHAHA! August 12, 2014. August 12, 2014.

Honey Beeing with the Potters. First activity of the year. March 8, 2015. It’s the first day they’ve shown their faces this year, pink hive likes the 45F weather. I’m surprised that yellow hive isn’t out as well unless they died between last week and now, but maybe they are just more picky and want a warmer day.
