D Byrne & Co, Clitheroe, Summer Wine Tasting 2011
http://www.andrewstevenson.com/wine/ByrnesSummer2011.htm
D Byrne and Co Summer Tasting. Need no introduction to wine-lovers in the north of England and, indeed, beyond. The depth and breadth of their range of wines, housed in a Victorian shop and rambling cellars, are the stuff of legend: wine-lovers have been known to be lost for hours and curiously reappear with empty wallets and full car boots. Prices are those given by Byrne's. NV Ant Moore, Kiki Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand. 2009 Boutinot Les Cerisiers Rosé, Côtes du Rhône. 2010 Stanley Estates ...
McHenry Hohnen Vintners, Margaret River, Australia
http://www.andrewstevenson.com/wine/McHenryHohnen_oct11.htm
A tasting and dinner hosted by David Hohnen, Louis Latour Agencies and JW Lees/Willoughby's. Lowry Hotel, Manchester. Oak is used on many of the wines, but it is virtually all old Burgundy barrels, as they don't want oak to play more than the most minimal part in a wine's flavour profile, but regard the oak barrique as the best environment for allowing a wine to mature. 2010 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc. It has a nice, gentle, fruity nose with fresh peas and a hint of lime. On the palate, it's attractive...
Miscellaneous tasting notes 2001-2004
http://www.andrewstevenson.com/wine/misctns2001-2004.htm
Miscellaneous Tasting Notes 2001 - 2004. Most recently tasted at the top). Last updated: 11 Jan 2008. 1972 Henschke Mount Edelstone, Premier Quality. 740ml, alcohol not shown. Henschke 1994 Quality Assurance back label: recorked and recapsuled 1994. On pulling the cork (which curiously sparkles with tartaric crystals) a perfumed blackberry scent was released into the room. Promising. 1995 Rheinriesling Spätlese Trocken, Willi Opitz. I don't think it's suffering from any premature oxidation. It didn't...
The Pequeñas Chile Tasting: Boutique Wineriesof Chile
http://www.andrewstevenson.com/wine/PequenasChile_jun11.htm
The Pequeñas Chile Tasting: Boutique Wineries of Chile. Bridgewater Hall, Manchester (08/06/2011). Table 1: Vina Arboleda. Arboleda is Eduardo Chadwick's personal project in the Aconcagua Valley, which he started in 1999. 2009 Arboleda Sauvignon Blanc. Chile, Aconcagua Valley. Bright, clean, asparagussy, sauvignon blanc nose tamed with good minerality. Good clean palate. All correct. (88 pts.). 2009 Arboleda White Rhône Blend. Chile, Aconcagua Valley. 42% Marsanne; 33% Viognier; 25% Roussanne. A very int...
Wine Dinner at Harts, Nottingham 4 December 2009
http://www.andrewstevenson.com/wine/nottingham_dec09.htm
Wine Dinner at Harts Restaurant, Nottingham. What is it about restaurants and spoons? Why are they so reluctant to let diners have spoons to scoop up delicious sauces, preferring the sauce to go back to the kitchen? Tarte tatin was a very good example, served with an absolutely silky smooth ice-cream. Unfortunately the caramel sauce poured on the plate had set into hard toffee by the time the plate reached the table. 2001 Grand Cellier d'Or, Vilmart. 2000 Coeur de Cuvée, Vilmart. Much less petrolly on th...

Half bottles for Thai food 28 November 2009
http://www.andrewstevenson.info/wine/BirminghamThai_nov09.htm
HALF BOTTLES FOR THAI FOOD. Siam Thai Restaurant, King's Heath, Birmingham. A small scale wine evening at the very enjoyable Siam Thai restaurant in King's Heath. Lovely, very homely Thai food. But unfortunately the homeliness means that the food's not very photogenic, so the food porn this time is limited to this one reader's wife snap of a chicken custard dish, that is much more delicious than my description might suggest. Not all half bottles, but predominantly so. 2008 Pieropan Soave Pieropan. From a...
Sud de France Languedoc-Roussillon tasting October 2014
http://www.andrewstevenson.info/wine/LanguedocRoussillonTasting_oct14.htm

Which represents the combined wine offer of Languedoc-Roussillon to the trade and to consumers. A family-owned winery, which has specialised in making sparkling wines for six generations. All grapes used are certified Terra-Vitis and the estate has a sustainable farming policy. NV Antech Doux et Fruité. France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Blanquette de Limoux. 90% Mauzac, 5% ...

The Wines of Poggio Argentieria, Maremma, Tuscany
http://www.andrewstevenson.info/wine/PoggioArgentiera.htm
The Wines of Poggio ArgentieriA, Maremma, Tuscany. Poggio ArgentierA are based just south of Grosseto, Tuscany. The estate was bought in 1997 by an Anglo-Italian couple: Gianpaolo Paglia, an agronomist from Maremma and Justine Keeling Paglia, a marketing professional from England. The etate came with around six hectares of old vines, and they set about planting further vineyards - at a high density to restrict each vine's production and increase quality. 2007 Guazza, Poggio ArgentierA, IGT Maremma Toscana.
SITT 2011
http://www.andrewstevenson.info/wine/SITT2011.htm
SITT is the Specialist Importers' Trade Tasting. First, here are a few quick impressions as headlines, with the full tasting notes following below. Table 2, Vintage Roots. Côtes de Gascogne Quatre Cepages, Pajot 2010 was jolly good: fresh citrussy, but with nice body. Great at c. £7.99. Their Morgon was lovely stuff, though no bargain. Stellar Organics, No Added Sulphur Cab Sauv 2010 from South Africa. A good easy drinking cab with a nice bit of funk. Table 17, Jackson Nugent. Table 21, Winehaus. But the...
1989 Revisited: various wines with dinner at Hambleton Hall, Rutland, October 2009
http://www.andrewstevenson.info/wine/HambletonHall_1989revisited_oct09.htm
Hambleton Hall, Rutland. This was an opportunity to revisit a selection of wines from 1989 alongside side some fantastic food and service from Hambleton Hall. Margaux was a classy, seductive, chic Parisian lady. Unfortunately, come midnight, she didn't exactly turn into a pumpkin (we'd had enough food by then anyway), but there was definitely a hint of ugly sister appearing. Climens rarely disappoints, and usually over-delivers. This one completely outclassed the Rieussec and Sudiraut. I didn't take a no...

Germany, Rheingau (11/2/2010). A good, precise nose with (oddly) some melon fruit. Nice crisp, fresh palate. Very good balance. (88 points). 2008 Hessische Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach Hochheimer Domdechaney Riesling Erstes Gewächs. Germany, Rheingau (11/2/2010). Germany, Rheingau (11/2/2010). 1938 Hessische Staatsweing...
Lots of Gewurz and other nice wines with a post-Christmas lunch at The Ox, Manchester
http://andrewstevenson.info/wine/manchester_ox_dec09.htm
A leisurely lunch with wine-loving friends at the Ox Inn, Liverpool Road, Manchester. Fennel and radicchio risotto, topped with seared scallop and quail egg. Chicken liver parfait, wrapped in foie gras butter, accompanied by loganberry jelly and brioche. Superb parfait, the foie gras in the butter just adding that little bit more richness, that was nicely offset by the jelly. Yum. Confit duck leg with dauphinoise potato, peppered balsamic strawberry sauce. No photo - you know what cheese looks like.

We went on a rainy lunchtime, so the views from the bar, sorry The Lounge, weren't as engaging as I imagine they can be. We met the third greete...
