I got Seoul, but I'm not a Soldier

I got Seoul, but I'm not a Soldier. Friday, 9 October 2009. So, this September was, to put it mildly, an experience. To begin:. New semester. Out with intensives, in with entirely new kids. Seriously, I didn't have one of my old classes. This made for an awkward start, but now it's like I've been their teacher forever. Plus, no problem kids and no problem classes! Prodigy by a country mile, followed closely by Underworld, MSTRKRFT, Royksopp, 2NE1 (better than Dylan) and then G-Dragon. The way I see it, t...

I got Seoul, but I'm not a Soldier: August 2009

http://www.andrewwmorris1.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

I got Seoul, but I'm not a Soldier. Wednesday, 26 August 2009. So in my last post I committed myself to a fresh start; start living life as I ought to, no more depressing BS when I get drunk, to start taking things in my stride. Great Sounds great to say it, looks good to read it. But how the hell do I reverse 17 years of fatnerd mental conditioning, topped off with 5 years of self-imposed "cancer boy" stigma? Well, I've decided that Stage 1. Sunday, 23 August 2009. A New Dawn, A new Day.a New Life?

I got Seoul, but I'm not a Soldier: June 2009

http://www.andrewwmorris1.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

I got Seoul, but I'm not a Soldier. Tuesday, 30 June 2009. Time to walk a tightrope: Religion. Before I start this out, I should probably share my own religion with you guys: I would say that I am an agnostic; I have no strong feelings one way or the other to any one faith. But in Korea, the word agnostic is as alien as gadzooks or antidisestablishmentarianism. And here's why: Korea is one of the only countries in the world to "self-evangelise"i.e.: to convert itself. Wednesday, 17 June 2009. So I know I...

I got Seoul, but I'm not a Soldier: July 2009

http://www.andrewwmorris1.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

I got Seoul, but I'm not a Soldier. Tuesday, 28 July 2009. The 5 Month Mark is closing in. Yup, 5 months. Feels like only yesterday that I was wandering around the British Museum with Hugo, embarrassing the shit out of him by taking a boatload of pictures. Or sitting in Bar T'At sipping on a pint of Warsteiner while Tom drinks a strawberry smoothie. Or meeting Dave at the Starbucks outside St. James' Tube station 10 hours before my flight. So, what have I achieved while I'm here? 1) I've drunk a lot.

The Korean Rabbit Hole: Cambodia

http://koreanrabbithole.blogspot.com/2010/01/cambodia.html

The Korean Rabbit Hole. Monday, January 4, 2010. One of the best experiences in my life. The flight from Seoul to Siem Reap was all of 6 hours, which is similar to flying across the United States. We landed in Siem Reap around midnight because our flight had been delayed because there was a snow storm in Korea. I was really nice to be leaving a snow storm for tropical conditions for a week. We had booked a guesthouse called Bou Savy Guesthouse. The next day we went to the Landmine Museum. Which was creat...

The Korean Rabbit Hole: December 2009

http://koreanrabbithole.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

The Korean Rabbit Hole. Friday, December 25, 2009. Cambodia is right around the corner. we leave tomorrow! I've got most everything in order, just need to pack now. In a twist of amazingness my wallet magically turned up! It somehow made its way into a drawer that I think in total I've opened 3 times including the time I opened it and found my wallet. Weird but a relief. Here are some pictures from Christmas at LCI. The one above has the words amazing written all over it. Saturday, December 19, 2009.

The Korean Rabbit Hole: Has it already been 2 weeks....

http://koreanrabbithole.blogspot.com/2010/01/has-it-already-been-2-weeks.html

The Korean Rabbit Hole. Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Has it already been 2 weeks. It's already been two weeks since I've been back from vacation. The major thorn in my side right now is this super cold weather. Being from sunny Southern California (Los Angeles) wild winter weather is not in my blood. I usually enjoy the cold weather but this is just silly. The Monday back from vacation was only a half day because Seoul received record snow. Outside of my window it looked like this. The Korean Rabbit Hole: October 2009

http://koreanrabbithole.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

The Korean Rabbit Hole. Friday, October 30, 2009. Friday at work we had a Halloween celebration for our kindergarten classes. The kids came to school dressed up in costumes and most of the staff dressed up also. Halloween in Korea is pretty nonexistent, but with the influx of Hagwons (private English schools) in Korea, Halloween is slowly creeping into the culture (or at least in the Seoul area). Over all the kids had a good time. Listening to The Noisettes Atticus. Wednesday, October 28, 2009. I've had ...

The Korean Rabbit Hole. Saturday, August 29, 2009. The palace itself is a located on a huge plot of land with a ton of different buildings through out the complex. When I arrived, I exited the subway and found myself standing in front of the main gate of the palace. There were a few guards directing foot traffic because the changing of the guard ceremony was about to take place. It began with a drum solo followed by a processional of guards. The last stop on the tour was an area filled with different scu...

The Korean Rabbit Hole: DJ Lance and Yo Gabba Gabba

http://koreanrabbithole.blogspot.com/2010/01/dj-lance-and-yo-gabba-gabba.html

The Korean Rabbit Hole. Thursday, January 14, 2010. DJ Lance and Yo Gabba Gabba. Back in the States is an amazing show called Yo Gabba Gabba. It was created by the lead singer of the band The Aquabats and is like a super Sesame Street that features awesome bands. Some of the bands they've had on the show included The Ting Tings, The Roots, The Shins and MGMT. I took a few pictures. For the show DJ Lance looks like this. At his guest DJ spot he was dressed like a regular guy. February 4, 2010 at 7:38 AM.

The Korean Rabbit Hole: September 2009

http://koreanrabbithole.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

The Korean Rabbit Hole. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Down here in the Rabbit Hole (Korea) dryers are not a standard appliance for people. For 2 months I have been washing my clothes and sheets and then hang drying them. Personally I feel clothes just don't feel the same without being dried. After the wash they don't retain their shape and they have a rough feel to them. As we were walking down the street together I couldn't help but think of the scene in the movie Home Alone where Kevin is staying in a h...

The Korean Rabbit Hole: A Whole Bunch of Creepy....

http://koreanrabbithole.blogspot.com/2010/02/whole-bunch-of-creepy.html

The Korean Rabbit Hole. Monday, February 1, 2010. A Whole Bunch of Creepy. Here is an article from the LA Times. That ran on the 31st. It's about an Anti-English group in Seoul that has gotten into some shady stuff. Some of the highlights include:. Then he follows them, often for weeks at a time, staking out their apartments, taking notes on their contacts and habits.". One more bit of information in the Korea Times. On a positive note I'm at the halfway mark. I've got 6 months left and then off to E...
