Once more into the breach dear friends… | Andy Explores

https://andyexplores.wordpress.com/2014/03/06/once-more-into-the-breach-dear-friends

The ramblings and misadventures of a wandering geography teacher. Once more into the breach dear friends…. March 6, 2014. Embracing the chilly climes of the UK…. Alas I did no such thing, leaving this blog unattended for over a year, and instead of a stoic phrase of legendary heroism, I merely left you with some innate ramblings. About some ill-advised South Korean route planning, and wantons not exactly one for the history books! However, the time has come for me to reprioritise my life, and make the mo...

Breaking Batad | Andy Explores

https://andyexplores.wordpress.com/2014/03/30/breaking-batad

The ramblings and misadventures of a wandering geography teacher. March 30, 2014. March 31, 2014. Stepping out of the bus I literally and metaphorically breathed a sigh of relief. Having spent the previous week in the stagnant smog of one of the most polluted mega cities on the planet, the opportunity to fill my lungs with the cold sweet air of the mountains of Northern Luzon was pure ecstasy. Tricycles at the ready in Banaue…. The ‘path’ down to Batad after the rain…. Now I do not claim to be the world’...

The ramblings and misadventures of a wandering geography teacher. October 9, 2012. January 10, 2013. My plane on my final plane day…. For the last few months in Tuvalu I have felt like a big fish in a small lagoon. Walking around Funafuti I recognise most people and most people recognise me, there are head nods, eyebrow raises and. Will I ever go camping in Tepuka again? Rugby team, and friendly faces from my. I was humbled by the amount of people who saw it fit to present me with some beads. Each ti...

Tuvalu | Andy Explores

The ramblings and misadventures of a wandering geography teacher. In September 2011 I headed off the the beautiful islands of Tuvalu in the South Pacific to undertake the role of Scout development ambassador. The following year was one of the most exciting of my life with experiences and adventures I would never have dreamed possible – below is the record of my time there. Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink. I small a rat…or two or three. Fix up look shark! Would you like a cup of tea? You ar...

Black Dog Bicycling: Solvitur Velocipedo

http://blackdogbicycling.blogspot.com/2015/03/solvitur-velocipedo.html

The stillness couldn't last. Altitude is a a cyclists hardest won currency; the urge for a spendthrift splurge rose irresistibly. With a glorious descent promise-note burning a hole in my pocket I packed up my camp and romped through Brinchang and Kampung Raja, the tableland's northern most stations. The scale of the developments was difficult to miss. The WWF's descri. Bing land clearance as "rampant" did not seem hyperbolic looking over valleys glaring back from reflective cellophane and glass. Instead...

Black Dog Bicycling: November 2013

http://blackdogbicycling.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

What a gorge-ous couloir, canyon not defile it? What I may lack in pun quality I try to make up for in exuberant quantity. Having spent a comfortable pagan night camped amongst the stone sentinels my morning began with another high pass to reach. At 2260m it was only a few hundered short of Selim and constituted a hearty mornings work. But safe in the knowledge that my destination for the day, Goris, was only 25k beyond I could relax and enjoy the growing majesty of the surrounds. Back on the road again.

Black Dog Bicycling: Trusty Steed

http://blackdogbicycling.blogspot.com/2015/04/trusty-steed_1.html

One thing has remained constant during my travels. And that most faithful friend is well deserving of an ode. A bicycle born near Bristol. Heard a silent starters pistol. I'd not subject you to that. Just a tribute in picture form to a supporter of loads and chaser of horizons. Many people name their bicycles but mine remains an enigma. I fret over this. In naming we imbue a thing with significance. Is it then a thoughtless lack of respect that leaves my bicycle short a sobriquet? She's come a long way.
