cave of newtmonkey: The Shining (1980)
http://newtmonkey.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-shining-1980.html
Very few film adaptations can be said to be unquestionably better than the books they are based on in every way. The Shining is one such film. Jack Torrance accepts a job as caretaker of a massive hotel during the winter, and brings his wife Wendy and young son Danny along. The hotel is remote and secluded and a previous caretaker had gone stir-crazy and murdered his family with an axe. Jack has got no problem with that, since he wants to be left alone to do some writing. View my complete profile. Music ...

cave of newtmonkey: They Saved Hitler's Brain (1969)

They Saved Hitler's Brain (1969). They Saved Hitler's Brain. Was made by combining a short feature with new footage shot by amateurs much later, and it shows. The short feature, Madmen of Mandoras. I suppose I get what I deserve for watching stuff from "50 movies for $10" DVD collections, but it's pretty disheartening to watch these kinds of movies. Hopefully the next one won't be so bad. Rats: Night of Terror (1984). After a devastating nuclear war humanity is split into two groups- those above ground and those below. A group of survivors come upon a deserted building and decide to make it their home. Little do they know that the building is already inhabited, and it may be no surprise to you that the inhabitants are rats. Is like Night of the Living Dead. With the the survivors replaced with nuclear holocaust survivors and zombies replaced with rats ( Hell of the Living Dead.

A bunch of badass-looking bikers are on their way to L.A. But they are GAY. This is your movie, and there is really nothing else much to say. You can tell that the movie was meant to be a madcap comedy, because obviously making a serious drama about a bunch of gay bikers was just impossible for mankind back in the mid- to late seventies. So you get your typical "gay" stuff. Picking out clothes. Prissy fights while grocery shopping. Poetry. Links to this post. Labels: Drive-In Cult Classics. There isn't m...

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). Growing up in the early 80s, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Was notorious as an almost mythically gory horror movie. Part of its infamy was due to the "based on a true story" introduction ( The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Is "based on" the Ed Gein case in the same way that Predator. I was on a never ending quest to reach new heights (or depths) of horror and gore. The thing with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I have seen The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Concerned by news of ...

There's not much to say about this classic post apocalyptic film. For a stunt/revenge flick it's got a surprisingly intriguing setting, memorable characters, and a great story that leaves you thinking about the fine line between justice and vigilantism (alternately: AWESOME STUNTZZZ). So these two aspects of the movie give you a lot to think about. How is the rest? Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. A Nightmare on Elm Street. Tuesday, February 25, 2014. Photography - Winter Woods. Thursday, February 20, 2014. Art in New Zealand. Christchurch, New Zealand was colorful and full of innovative art. The city responded to earthquake damage by putting up installations in areas of damage. I loved the trees and flowers in NZ, they were beautiful! Carving at the NZ base (Scott Base) in Antarctica, maybe about half a mile from the American Base, McMurdo. All the buildings and vehicles are green at Scott Base! Tuesday, February 18, 2014.

Sunday, March 16, 2014. Geology in the Southwest. I had the awesome opportunity to travel to the southwest for a week of spring break with the geology club here at UMaine! We landed in Vegas than made our way to Zion National Park in Utah, then the Grand Canyon in Arizona, than the desert outside of Phoenix. We made many cool stops along the way!
