Expertise Not Evangelism

Monday, May 12, 2014. Nodding (and Waving) at Strangers. There's a pleasant camaraderie in cycling; in the nod or the wave to a like minded stranger, heading in a different direction. Some friends have a VW camper van, and I delight in the quaintly tribal ritual they enact whenever they see another such vehicle on the road. It's almost masonic in its performance, in their cheerful adherence to the peculiar process, in the ritual. We wave at other drivers? Why shouldn't we connect. Sweeter still is that e...

Expertise Not Evangelism: User Experience Starts Long Before the Front Page

http://andyfryer.blogspot.com/2010/09/user-experience-starts-long-before.html

Wednesday, September 8, 2010. User Experience Starts Long Before the Front Page. Or the front door, even. Last weekend, there was an advert in the Sunday Times Travel section - a full page, colour advert - for a company that will fly you 'round less-accessible destinations in Australia in a private plane. Prices start at over £10,000. It's a glossy advert, with some nice photography. It also contains the non-word "passangers". The eighth word in the second paragraph). Attention to detail again? Stories i...

Expertise Not Evangelism: User experience and email communications

http://andyfryer.blogspot.com/2010/12/user-experience-and-email.html

Wednesday, December 15, 2010. User experience and email communications. Get your email communication strategy right. I've recently started getting email from Southern Railway, a train operating company serving the south of England. This is odd not least because I don't live in the area they serve, and I rarely travel to it or through it. In fact, I'm sure the only reason why I'm receiving the email is because I used their service to travel to UX Brighton. Be clear about who you are. My mail program repor...

Great experiences are often not explicable entirely by deconstructive analysis; they're more. Than the sum of their parts, so it's not simply a case of breaking the experience down into the components required to deliver the Great Experience. Even to a child; there's a big difference between housework and homework. Because they are so natural and effortless. Contribute to the total experience for the user. Expertise Not Evangelism: A Better Shopping Cart and Checkout Process

http://andyfryer.blogspot.com/2011/01/better-shopping-cart-and-checkout.html

Wednesday, January 12, 2011. A Better Shopping Cart and Checkout Process. Used your e-commerce website? It comes to something when website shopping carts are the topic of an online comic - or perhaps it's an example of how much more demanding users are today. Either way, The Oatmeal cast his amused, wry eye over website checkout processes and shopping carts. In his recent comic ( How to make your shopping cart suck less. Tell users what fields are mandatory - and make it really. Clear Use colour. Use...

Expertise Not Evangelism: Cycling the Beautiful Cadence

http://andyfryer.blogspot.com/p/cycling-beautiful-cadence.html

Cycling the Beautiful Cadence. This is a delicious, glorious sensation. And it is also fleeting. No matter how long the cadence lasts - and sometimes it may be for miles - eventually, something changes. There is a shift in one of the many factors that influence the moment: the elusive, precise combination of gearing, fitness, energy levels, weather, road surface, terrain; all of the conditions that have come together to create the beautiful cadence go their separate ways. When might the moment return?

Andy Fryer Creative Branding Designer Cheshire

Rebrand of a family activities holiday destination in Scotland, including character mascot. Argyll wished to freshen up their identity to reflect the beautiful scenery and family activities available in the area. Previously a solid blue colour, I felt the colours within the new system should appear more natural, yet still bright to enhance the fun, family aspect. The identity would be implemented across all 7 parks within Argyll Holidays with supporting colour schemes to differentiate between the areas.
